I'm aware of the empires the Mississippians and Anasazi built, of the Mayans and Incans to the south. What I'm saying is that their power was irrelevant at the time of colonization due to them no longer existing. First contact with the Euros killed enough Native Americans through disease that any large power structures crumbled and basically assured their downfall. They got the shit end of the history stick, and unfortunately that's how the world works. No amount of rectifying "injustices", real or otherwise, will bring back the dead or increase the population of Native Americans in this country to the point where they will be a large force like they once were. Personally I wouldn't mind granting them greater autonomy and some form of economic aid, but trying to rectify the current situation is a nightmare. Many reservations are run by corrupt administration, alcoholism and poverty is beyond rampant, and the job market may as well be nonexistant. It may be hard for you to face facts, but the Native Americans were another sad casualty of history, and they probably won't be the last.
