It pays well, I already make 40k euro. The job market in Germany is pretty good too because there's thousands of small to medium sized companies that hire engineers.
How interesting the work is depends on the company, I get to design engine parts and it's pretty cool to see where the stuff you had a hand in creating ends up getting used.

I got a Master at a Fachhochschule, I liked it because it was more hands on and not just theory.
If you want to get a degree in Germany check out Werksstudenten programs, they're a great combination between studying and work experience at a company.
