How shitty modern art is viewed in your country?

Here in Germany idiot modern art is very accepted because of politically correctness. Hitler didn't like modernism, during denazification the allies forced Germany to swallow modern arts and buildings, that are mostly ugly and boring.

I guess some people like it, but most people think it is bullshit and a waste of money. Contemporary art itself was deliberately cultivated to deconstruct the idea of art and render the term "art" meaningless. So you shouldn't be surprised that most people hate it.

Of course we have crappy abstract art like everywhere else, but I believe "modern art" is too broad a concept to give an opinion.
>>

It's very, very niche here. I personally at least haven't noticed any mainstream appeal.

I go to plenty of exhibits and most of them are quite interesting. Perhaps the gallery in my town is just more selective of what crap they allow to put on their walls.

Doctor cant smear bandages all over a patient and call himself a doctor. Engineer cant smear a bunch of silicium and copper over something and call himself an engineer. A chemist cant smear a bunch of chemicals all over the table and call himself a chemist.

This is why these things are legitimate life choices, legitimate things to be. Dont be a fucking artist. Dont be a fucking shit smearer. Dont be a useless, unemployable cunt. Why would anyone think this is a good thing to do in life? Why would anyone think his personal hobbies matter?

The problem people have with artists is the money they get.
Art really shouldn't have a price to it, to be honest. If it's emotionally invoking, then you should be able to appreciate it. I feel nothing when I see a lot of famous paintings that took lots of skill, but I feel something when it comes to simple stuff like Derek Setzer's work.

If art pieces had no actual price on them, people wouldn't care.
>>
>>53735997
I really like some modern art, but a lot of it is garbage.

What bothers me is when there was obviously no effort put into the creation and presentation of a piece, modern or not.

I just dislike them because they think they are so special and valuable.... while in reality, in my reality at least, they arent. Artists get in my face and are all like 'eyo listen, you need my art more than you need air so you better respect me like I am a divine being' or something, that's the vibe I got from 'the artists' I met so far, so now I just avoid these people.

People I actually fucking need and people I would actually want to have around are doctors, engineers, scientists, and even farmers. I actually want their work. And these guys never even brag or are so self centered. They are pretty down to earth, dont bother if you arent into their work, and their work is basically what keeps you alive.

I really don't know much about art to be honest. I just see something pretty, and I like it. That's as far as I go.

But I'm more familiar with music. There are incredibly complex songs out there that are just fucking tedious to listen to, while something as Phillip Glass, Tides, or Low is so much better than the works of the technically talented Thomas Ades, Rosetta, or the American Misic Club.

You kids haven't seen the retardation that is modern art until you've spent six hours in the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Great museum in every other sense, but holy shit is their modern art section the kinda shit that makes you consider suicide.

One of the pieces of "art" is, and I'm 100% serious, a string tied to a hook on the wall and tied to a hook on the floor.
That's is.
Just a standard 45° angle triangle.
It's not even nice string. It's the shit you buy at craft stores.

Tons of other nonsense as well.

If you're ever in Indy and you want a trippy experience I highly recommend it.

How's it edgy?

At the end of the day, two pieces of art of just something emotionally or visually interesting. If the better looking one took 12 hours while the other took 12 weeks, I don't care. Hyperrealism almost always falls under the "Wow that's pretty cool and talented, but I don't really care for it" type of art.
>>
>>53755970
That's true, it's all subjective. But with modern art, which typically is more minimalist, you have to be very precise with what you're using or it turns out looking like shit.

Sometimes people put too much work into something and it ends up being garbage too, for sure.

Modern muh 3 squares is pretty dumb, true, but old stuff with Malevich and Kandinsky was important because we literally didn't know stuff regarding colour theory. So a bunch of simple art pieces were produced out of experiment to see how certain combinations evoke different emotions or perspectives.

Much like how minor music notes are deemed "sad", it took some practice to see what combinations make a piece particularly "sad".
