England >too many to count
France >Albert Camus
US > Jack Kerouac
Japan >Mishima Yukio
Russia >Фёдop Mихáйлoвич Дocтoéвcкий
Russia probably and not only literature
>Albert "I'll be unconventional for them lulz" Camus
Oh OP you jolly old prankster. Anyways, Russia, France and Great Britain have each conceived the pinnacle of litterature, and nothing will ever rival the litterature golden age that spanned from 1700 to 1900.
Strange that the world regard them as our greatest classics, whilst Zola, Proust and Balzac are those most heralded as the greatest in France. Fucking hell, even Molière and de Musset are more exported than Racine.
The only great thing Sade wrote is "Dialogue Between a Priest and a Dying Man"
>they are the most well known
That's what I don't understand, why are they so famous while GOAT authors like Mauriac, Gide, Gracq, Valéry, Gary, Céline and Proust are less known ?
The XVIIth century seems totally unknown outside of France
Russian Literature tldr: letter, rubles, renting a room, gloom, cabbage soup, red beard, land dispute, guest room, frock, cheek, muzhik, poverty, poker, snow, detailed descriptions, descriptions that last for 15 pages without dialogue, descriptions, cold, crisis, misery, captain, captains girl, absurdly realistic characters with all their faults, everyone being known by 15 different names, german officer.
Also I recommend you to read this guy:
He also points on existencial questions in regular life (of soviet people in mid 70s), and his works are easy to read (well, in russian).
Why does Shakespeare always get the snub when it fucking counts?
Also, does everyone really meme on American so hard here that they refuse to recognise they've produced some of the best writers of the last 100 years?
>Read Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther
Shit advice, as much as I like Faust, the Sorrows of Young Werther is really bad (even though interesting because it gives a clear overview of the romantic ideal).
Those are just short names with suffixes that depend on person of whom or to whom one speaks:
Aлeкcaндp, Caшa, Caшeнькa, Caшyля, Caня, Caныч & so on.
Also we used to call a well-known friend using their patronim: Ивaн Пeтpoвич -> Пeтpoвич!
And a family name of a character depends on their gender.
Mishima a.k.a. Seppuku writer had passion. I love him.
Remember his poem about Saint-Peterburg, lol
One polish here said he was a great writer. I didn't read him, but I have one big book of him. Is he that bad cause of tl;dr?
Confirm that. As people say in our country "Pushlin is a Sun of Russian poetry".
France (classic), Germany( Gete), Japan (only hokku), GB (Shakespeare), US (Twain), Poland (Lem). There was many excellent writers from all this countries. If we'll take some counts and stats (France, i think, will win).
My father as a school student had been sending mails to girls by rewriting phrases in french from Tolstoy's "War and Peace" since he didn't french, but qts thought he knew and liked it. lol
>butthurt continentals thinking their opinions matter
>not the least cultured place in the world
even poo-in-the-loo has more culture
Why are you so butthurt about the fact that I prefer American literature over Britbong literature?
>doesn't have feelers, pincers and 8 legs
you're a literal non country mate. nothing a belgian says or does means anything to anyone, you are the international equivalent of an administrative error. now go back molesting your 8 year old sex slave and let the adults talk.
THE ONLY CORRECT ANSWERS ARE: GERMANY, RUSSIA AND USA. In no particular order.
I don't know much about Polish literature and intellectuals though (solely due to my ignorance), so maybe I should check it out. I guess it could be pretty good.
>Goethe is not pleb tier
Goethe is the Schiller for the poor brain.
I read Orwell and Huxley. And it's just romans, not even well written.
Hobbs and Locke is very easy thought philosophy.
And Shakespear never tried to be more tham pleb level. His plays were mainly visitied by plebs and he wrote it for plebs.
>my supreme intellect is above the folklore of the great unwashed
For your simple pleasure it might me enough.
But some of us read a lot anf got bored from reading always the same shematics with all look a like stereotypical characters.
It's like reading the same book again and again.
Let us just take the core ideas of those writters like social contract or the division of political power.
The division of power was already a common idea in Italian Republics of the 14-15th century.
This is pretty much just a logical conclusion if live in a time where different interest groups fight each other on a political stage.
In Hobbs writting it is a very simple explained concept which comes out the very same idea.
In his writting he describes a natur of human in a very very simplified way of everyone fights for his own interest.
Just compare this kind of thoughts with german philosophers like Hegel, Feuerbach or Schobenhauer.
Even Nietzsche who is quite simple to read and to understand has a more deeper thought on the human mind.
I want to be contrarian and edgy so I people think I'm smart the post
Shakespeare was acclaimed by the greatest Minds of the time he brought great prestige to England and only autistic teenagers called him shit desu

Holly shit I just hope you will kill yourself for such a disgusting comment.
France and Russia. All other nations have at most 3 great novelists, France and Russia have whole traditions of them. Germany has as many good writers, but most of them were philosophers so it doesn't count.
>he doesn't know Borchert, Brecht and Hesse
>he never thought about Schiller,
>who Georg Büchner
>What is a Kafka
Brodsky said the soviet censorshirp was a good thing since if you want to write about truth, you should be smarter then censors. But the censorship was that stupid in case of pointing reason for calling smth god or bad *sigh* like calling A-ha a punk band or somewhat that like.
>Why do foreigners only know about Camus and Sartre ?
yeeeeah don't forget about dumas. otherwise french has nothing on swedish literature. literally the best literature in da woooorld!
This. You just can't compare English literature to French or Russian. Latter have far superior novels and poetry. English writers are overrepresented bymedia because muh global language.
