Just let us appreciate the feels m8
What's you canon for Gondola?
For me I like the idea he's the silent observer.
hm never thought about using that one
I use this one atm
A gondola is many things to many people. I don't think there's any unified idea, everyone has their own belief of it.
To me, he's the observer. In art, he represents the viewer of it, the part which is unspoken but is a completely necessary aspect. Without it, art wouldn't exist.
This extends to when you see him in real situations as well. A beautiful natural landscape, or the mysteriousness of a city, they wouldn't mean anything without the observing character. They're just places that exist, but with the observer they become something more.
That's what Gondola is to me.
Nah, i got that one in a gondola thread last week
Exactly. He's our avatar. He represents us, even if he may appear strange and different.
This is the modern condition. Seeing things, knowing things, and yet being completely powerless to do anything other than watch.
I wonder if this is the first post-ironic meme.
had both of these, now I have this
Jesus christ I love this shit so much. It's not even dumb, that's the crazy thing, it's actually thoughtful, and it's made me feel more than I have in a long time from visiting modern art galleries.
When you guys appreciate gondolas, do you usually watch the image in silence or do you listen to some music in the background?
I don't know what it is about these little things that make me so happy. Like everyone else I'm usually completely miserable day after day, but few threads like these that just show them make me smile and happy to be around.
Nah not quite saudade, because that implies a sadness for something you once had, somewhere you've been, the past glory of the portuguese empire that the portuguese will never stop crying about, etc.
These gondola-feels are something different, but i can't put my finger on it
>.webms have no sound on /int/
Not a proper Gondola posting ground
My personal favorite.. Nothing comfier than a long train ride with nothing but a nice chill track, your thoughts and the soft rumble of the train...
these threads depress me but I can't stop participating
>These gondola-feels are something different, but i can't put my finger on it
Although, that's not how I see it. For me, gondola is about transcendence. A modern Buddha really.
It's one of my favorite words. I think of it as the opposite of wishfulness. When you're wishful you look forward to something with excited anxiety and when you're wistful you look back at something with depressed anxiety.
Unfortunately there's no translation for wishful or wistful in portuguese, although wistful seems to be similar to the portuguese saudade. When you have saudade you look at the past longing for it to come back, like when you're old and miss the golden days of your youth, or when you break up with your gf and remember the good times you spent with her wishing for her to come back. So i guess wistfulness is like that but with a bit of anxiety and/or regret, while saudade is usually more warm and nostalgic. idk
>When you have saudade you look at the past longing for it to come back, like when you're old and miss the golden days of your youth, or when you break up with your gf and remember the good times you spent with her wishing for her to come back.
The english word for that would be nostalgia.
But doesn't nostalgia imply some happiness? In all occasions i've seen people with nostalgia they were happily remembering past experiences. Saudade implies sadness
My english is pretty shitty so i can't explain it in more detail, but here's a good explanation on what it is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudade
>Open world sandbox/exploration gondola game never
Yeah they seem to be pretty close
>Saudade is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, well-being, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again. It can be described as an emptiness, like someone or something that should be there in a particular moment is missing, and the individual feels this absence. It brings sad and happy feelings all together, sadness for missing and happiness for having experienced the feeling.
Hmm, looking at this wikipedia definition i guess it applies very well to the gondolas, at least for me. When i see gondola i usually mentally put myself in his place and feel saudade/wistfulness because i used to travel a lot and see lots of places and people but now i just sit on my arse all day long fapping to chinese cartoons and swearing at argentinians on this laotian pottery forum, so gondolas remember me of how life is great and how i miss living
>tfw somebody posts your oc
honestly, it's the best feeling
Who is the guy that does these? They're fucking fantastic.
Oh hell please don't.
I just want to be his friend while he travels the world
One would think that gondola would be inside the warm cafe, being a part of an iconic piece. Instead he stands outside, looking in as a passerby. The focus shifts from the lonely man at the bar to gondola, a being of greater mystery. We think our minds are open. In reality, the glass represents our closed minds and lack of understanding of greater things. Things we can only dream of understanding.
I wish people would stop depicting Gondolas in such wrong ways. Gondola is a lonely creature, personally I think there exists only 1 or very, very few, maybe a dozen. There are no Gondola big families, Gondola cities, there can't be a Gondola societies, because Gondola is the concept of the absence of interaction with the world, whilst society is interaction. Gondolas don't play football, Gondolas don't cosplay, Gondolas don't feel sad, or happy, or angry. The only feels a Gondola can feel is contentness, melanchony, or a feeling of being powerless. As said by many, he's the silent observer, destined (cursed?) to wander lands and places and witness all the wordly happenings without being able to change anything
