Because Poles as a nation are treated themselfs as a victims of their history, which is partly true - we lost an occasion to have an own country in the Age of Enlightenment, it was partitioned before, our national uprisings were lost (today Poles are divide about that if uprisings were good or bad) and our intellectuals had to emigrate around the world. Nevertheless our modern polish culture (don't talk about nobility of the Commonwealth culture) was partly shaped on emmigration. Our poets, our nobility, our soldiers and artists most of them had to go out from the country because of repressions.. And that's the reason why we have a little bit complex of being Europeans of inferior category. Moreover, we have a difficult experience with our country's neighbours, which were/are large countries (it's hard to be between two empires during the centuries) and most of Poles are so touchy about cases like nazi camps (most of us have or had a family member who was there), Katyn or Volhynia massacre. Yes, we're like a hurt dog and that where does the polish butthurt come from
