That series was titled Biohazard from the beginning in Japan, and then they released it as Resident Evil in the global market. As for the word バイオハザード, we have a boring Japanese term "生物学的危害 (seibutsugakutekikigai)", which doesn't match a game title, so they adopted 'Biohazard' instead, which sounds kinda cool and mysterious to us.
