Post God-tier leaders of your country that somehow never receive recognition from modern-day masses.
>pic related, I blame Victor Hugo for tarnishing his work as leader of France
u know it
pic. related- its his main man
Rebuilt Paris to its current grandeur.
Masterfully engineered European diplomacy to his advantage, which allowed him to best Austria, gain Savoy, expand the french empire peacefully with consent from other nations, and could've englobed southern America under french influence through Maximilian.
Finally gave France a banking system that would rival Great-Britain and paved the way for french industrialization through Saint-Simonien techniques.
Advanced worker's rights to stifle the growth of socialism.
I could go on and on though this thread is perhaps doomed to 404 so I'll only continue if it spurs some real debate.
both came after this dude, the real OG
not a leader but check'em
admiral, inventor of the marines, swag incarnate and rapist of crumpets
OP is #REKT
btw OP talking about Napoleon III, called "Napoleon-the-manlet (le petit) by Victor Hugo"
meh, ofc nobody only does bad things.
but the haussman modernization of Paris >>53333741 mostly aimed at preventing future revolutions : they replaced the small streets by big Avenues, to prevent barricades, and allow tanks.
I'm not saying that some haussmanian avenues are not beautiful.
But small streets (there are still a few near st michel metro) have more charm, like in London.
He was far from god-tier, but I do appreciate him
pic related is Philip Augustus, in fact he actually is very well-appreciated but I just wanted to post him
James "Annex Mexico and 54° 40' or Fight" Polk
MASSIVELY underrated. All that economic prosperity during the Blair years is because of this man and his Cabinet, especially based Kenneth Clarke.
Bulgaria died with him.
Never seen him in the history books outside of Sweden and maybe other nordic countries.
But then i have this guy.
Gustav Vasa (Eriksson, the name he had before being crowned King and a noble man.)
a quote from him
"Aз нe cъм oт фapиceйcтвyющитe пoлитикaни, aз нaпpaвo въpвя към цeлтa cи: кoгaтo видя нeщo пo мoeтo вътpeшнo yбeждeниe, чe тo тpябвa дa ce нaпpaви зa cпaceниeтo нa Oтeчecтвoтo, пpaвя гo, мaкap дa e зaпpeтeнo oт зaкoнитe."
>I not one of those politicians with affinity for farces, when I see something that I believe will help my fatherland, I do it even if the laws forbids it.
Came here to post this.
Pity he didn't push for the full claim on Oregon,
>Defeated Austrian Empire
Like it's a fucking achievement
Casimir III the Great
The last true king of Poland, Jagiellons can suck a dick.
This nigga here was one of the best rulers Portugal ever had... He slaughtered the corruptive families that were draining all the Portuguese resources and lead an anti-clerical campaign in order to free Portugal from the chains of the catholic church
He has nothing to do with nationalism, it's just a matter of fact that he was a very important person for this country and he should absolutely be represented as the king he were.
D. Pedro II, obviously.
>fucked over his older brother
>fucked over pope Innocent III , unlike John Lackland :^)
>fucked over Byzantium
>made Serbia a fully independent and recognized country/kingdom, not just a rogue Byzantine province
>fucked the granddaughter of the doge of Venice
