I have a friend who studied rural poverty in Russia for his thesis in school for 6 months. According to him, Russia is the kind of place where a man has unlimited personal freedom, (meaning they can fuck around and do whatever they want on a personal level and nobody will care), but that average citizens have virtually no political or economic sway over their lives unless they somehow manage to move abroad or are already wealthy.
