There's no need for competition when every last drop of the earth's resources is being poured into NASA. Competition in that scenario would serve only to fragment the space industries efforts.

I've come to the realisation that the sole purpose of human life and humanity as a species is aesthetic. We will always be mortal, but aesthetic beauty reigns supreme generations and generations after we die. The greatest gift we can leave our descendents is good architectua heritage. We are currently in an era of unprecedented rape of global urban [and natural] landscapes. Most young people grow up in aesthetic poverty, without a single shred of beauty in our towns and cities, and it is just as damaging to the developing person as malnutrition.

The single way in which to best improve our world and the lot of all people, whether third world or first world, is by reversing what has been done to the human habitat. If I could wave a wand and change the world in one way I'd remove all "modern" architecture and replace it with traditional/classical architecture.

The other day I was reading someone who said that architecture was the 1st form of writing. For example, Stonehenge (menhirs and dolmens as letters).
I guess it was Hugo, in Notre dame de Paris.
