I thought your nation formed in the 1900's. Before then that you have been ruled by tons of other kingdoms and monarchs correct? Or was the Slovene nation always independent?

If nation is synonymous with nation-state, then why does the latter term even exist? I thought that a nation-state denotes a state that is inhabited predominately by the members of a single nation, meaning that the nation, which I believe is synonymous with ethnicity, precedes the state's formation. Or no?

Not all nations are states, for example here in the USA we have things like the Cherokee Nation for certain native groups, but they're not states. So you're right, and it's called a nation-state if the state is built around this concept of nation
