It's funny how nobody in Sweden knows there are Swedish speaking people in Finland. The city with the highest percentage of swedish speakers is in Finland as well.
Well, what can you expect of an Arab country.
There are more Arabs in Sweden than Swedes in Finland. Not just in total, but as a percentage of the population, too.
Think about how much influence the Finland-Swedes have had on the country. Imagine how big of an effect the Muslims are going to have on Sweden and Europe as a whole.
Im saying I dont understand why people would want to learn Russian instead of Swedish. Don't you want a better paying job in Sweden or Norway? Im getting out of this hell hole as soon as possible.
Russia is an interesting country to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
The way they teach "swedish" and finnish in this country is beyond fucked up though.
There are 260 million Russian speakers worldwide. There are 9 million Swedish speakers worldwide. Sweden has the highest English proficiency index in the world, whereas Russia ranks below average. Hmmm! Go figure...
Better than the people in Älvdal
It's a good point, but I do think there's value in learning Swedish since Finnish is so odd. It shouldn't be mandatory though, maybe put it next to german/french/spanish. What third (fourth?) languages do you get to pick between?
>I do think there's value in learning Swedish since Finnish is so odd.
>What third (fourth?) languages do you get to pick between?
Our 4th language option depends on the school, but the most common ones seem to be French, German and Russian. Sometimes Spanish is also available. Then when you get to high school (again, depending on the school) your language options open up a bit more once again.
English is always going to sound awkward when doing business. Since norway, denmark and sweden all share the same language group, finland risks being left out and placed in the same group as estland, lettland and litauen.
If I wanted to pursue a career in international business I probably would, it would be a huge asset. Same goes for Russian. Also since the Russian space program is so prominent, many NASA engineers and astronauts are required to learn Russian. But hey, why do that when you can learn Swedish and seek employment as a cashier in coastal Finland. At least you won't be a Chink cuck.
The thing about language learning is that if you don't want to learn it, you never will. You can't just hammer it in the kids' heads if they don't care about it at all.
I think I remember more about my 2 years of French than 4 years of Swedish.
Finland: the last bastion of Swedishness
I'm a fennoswede currently studying in sweden, and I can confirm that not a single soul here knew that we existed. Everyone was like "omg you're so good at Swedish, did you learn it all in school??".
Though I really don't think finnish speaking people should be "forced" to learn swedish, considering fennoswedes are such a big minority.
Very few finns speak English. You are not an English speaker when you can't even pronounce the letters. Just look at any interview with the u20 hockey team, they were complete shit at English.
Same thing goes on for fennoswedes studying finnish, albeit with a much stricter learning plan for obvious reasons. Most fennoswedes I know can speak finnish to a certain degree but most discussions between fennoswedes and finns usually lead to both parties switching to english since it's way simpler.
I'm guessing that's on the west coast? In Helsinki I've never met a fennoswede who didn't speak Finnish at a 100% native level.
Yeah this is in Ostrobothnia, where swedish is more prominent.
My fennoswede mates in uusimaa all speak finnish fluently, probably cause they come in contact with the language so much more than we do.
I really wish I knew finnish better though, it's a pretty cool language. But my lord is it hard to grasp the grammatic rules and shit when you grew up with swedish.
Are there happy queers in Finland? It seems that everyone there looks serious, even homosexuals.
This. Haven't seen any other subject taken so lightly or with dislike as Swedish. Even fairly useless stuff like religion is usually found entertaining even if the person doesn't care about religion itself, but pretty much no one enjoys Swedish.
There's literally no point to learning it. It sounds more faggoty than French and in terms of practicality it's fucking useless and you'll never need it - Being taught a dialect spoken by even less people than Standard Swedish renders it even more useless as you can understand no one in Sweden and vice versa.
Norway on its own wouldn't have fam. Norwegians were simple fishermen before they found their oil and your country was a shithole - It'll return into that state eventually when you run out of oil
unironically, the norwegian military rebuilt and got bigger and bigger towards the end of the war
Milorg (resistance) also just grew in size and helped with liberations (it would have about 55000 soldiers to defend Finnmark)
meanwhile, Finland was rek'd by Russia
>It'll return into that state eventually when you run out of oil
Never going to happen since Norway invested and will keep investing their oil money
t. country that got occupied
>it would have about 55000 soldiers to defend Finnmark
No, your shitty resistance movement had supplied only a total of 40,000 soldiers, only a fraction of which was stationed in Finnmark (if any, can't be bothered to check that).
>why people would want to learn Russian
The Art of War by Sun Tzu
Chapter 3 : Strategic Attack
"It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle."
>Don't you want a better paying job in Sweden or Norway?
No, because I want to live in my home country and make it better.
>Im getting out of this hell hole as soon as possible.
You won't be missed.
it was 55k and personell would be moved towards finnmark if you're invading plus another roughly 30k personell from the armed forces, the nazis are retreating and they got no other front to worry about
it's note a monster size army but they sure as fuck would have defended Finnmark against a beaten and battered finnish military that just lost against Russia
Your military was fucking disbanded after the Nazis occupied you. The only thing that remained was literally your police force and your resistance movement, both combined definitely didn't outnumber the amount of Finnish troops fit for battle after the Continuation War. 75,000 were stationed in Lapland when the Nazis were retreating, those troops alone could've occupied Finnmark.
norwegian forces were fighting abroad
training camps in usa, britain, canada
you also have to remember that we were allies and a little bit of help from the anglos would be enough to halt a finnish assault
for example, the 99th infantry battalion in the US army was created with the sole purpose of liberating Norway and we had lots of good will among the allies like that. Finland was not an Ally. It pays to have friends.
>Mumin was written by a Swede living in Finland and was dubbed by Swedes.
>Clearly you speak Swedish to some degree.
>wouldn't be able to hold us off by yourselves
Also, at what point did I say you would not be able to hold us off with help from cunts like the US?
Never met a young fennoswede who couldn't speak Finnish. They are kinda racist though, demand service in Swedish even though they could speak Finnish too. There was a interview on a German doctor working in Espoo (~8% Swedish) who said that the only racism towards him was caused by bilingual Fennoswedes who didn't want to speak Finnish with him (he couldn't speak Swedish).
well I don't know who would have won the war if USA didn't help us, maybe we would have won, impossible to say
also you think the art of diplomacy is somehow irrelevant in the art of war?
how a country like Finland ends up with no true allies.. well you dun goofed
It's just when you autism about potential wars between countries in the past, the first one to go "muh allies" loses. Of course in reality Finland couldn't have grabbed Finnmark under the geopolitical realities at the time. If not the US, it would've at least triggered yet another war with Russia. That wasn't the argument
>It's an unwritten rule.
>We don't bring economical implications into
Not that Western "Finns" aren't mixed anyway, so telling them apart is of course impossible. Nevertheless, Fennoswedes are still keeping up their oppressive bilingual system and are a threat to Finns and Finnish culture.
JAG HETER PETER OCH JAG IMPAR ERIKEEPER :DDDDDDDD
Basically this :D Holy fuck there are too many muslims and a shitty climate in Finland. I'm glad I don't live there :D
t. Finn not living in Finland
Nii eli ei olla. Lähempänä toki ku itäsuomalaiset metsälääset mutta silti ihan oma porukka, yhtä kaukana niin hurreista kun landeista t eteläsoomi
No one has motivation to learn it, that's the problem. It's useless. You only need it in certain areas, pretty sure Finns would benefit more from learning Russian. Even Swedes don't speak Swedish anymore because of the migrants so why should we?
Tbh, the first Finno-Ugric language brought here in the late bronze age might not have been the direct ancestor of Baltic Finnic if we go by haploshits. N1c-VL29/L550 predates the later branches associated with the arrival of Savonians etc. All the old N1c in Sweden, Lithuania etc is L550.
You're confused. Yes, it is of Uralic origin but it is a young subclade which came from a man who lived in Finland or Estonia not much before 3000 years ago, and who was only remotely related to Savonians, Karelians etc who are very closely related.
we need to invade Finland to save our Swedish speaking minority. Annex west coast.
Who's to say where the N subclade in Sweden and Baltics originated from exactly? Also, the part about the younger subclade being associated with Savonians - Who's to say they weren't assimilated into the core population who were already Uralic-speaking?
>and here I thought, finnish education was so.. awesome?
Our education system is pretty effective _and_ highly egalitarian; even the dumbest fucktards who should probably be sterilized for the greater good have a good chance of learning how to read, write and do basic math in school. This raises our average scores above many countries where those people would never receive an education worth shit. I suppose that's a nice thing in some ways.
That only really applies to primary schools, though. This country does not really know how to value geniuses or visionaries, encourage people to stand out, etc. As you climb higher up the education ladder, the quality drops quite a bit until you reach the over-bureaucratized universities where one's skill at office politics can largely replace talent and effort.
The Swedish language has been a bit of a sore spot for a long time. I can understand why it's mandatory --- Swedish aristocrats and clergy were basically our overlords for a long time and played a large role in the rise of the current republic of Spurdo and the glorious battle against the forces of Mordor. And in the coastal parts of the country there's still a large Swedish-speaking minority that may deserve some rights. But in the rest of Finland you can go through your life without hearing any of it, unless you accidentally switch your TV to a channel broadcasting something in Swedish. You can probably guess how hard it is to motivate students to learn Swedish in eastern Finland.
Don't despair they have courses for complete retards (when it comes to Swedish) there as well.
I went on one of the retard courses and they teach you everything from the start.
The success rate is IIRC about 70-80% after the course.
I have to take a mandatory Finnish exam in uni and I can't into Finnish grammar, especially not writing proper formal Finnish. That's the main thing stopping me from graduating, fucking hell
Because L550 looks to be rooted in Finland based the current samples and its brother clade is found among Vepsians and Estonians. I don't really know if L550 carriers were the linguistic ancestors of Finns and later Volga lads learned their language, or the other way around.
