In Algeria it's local history from the Early Ages to the revolution and independence. I'm not sure if they actively avoid teaching about the black decade (90-00) or if it's still "too new" or if the textbooks never get updated.

It was pretty dry and boring, history subject only got a bit better at high school where we studied grand stuff like the world wars, cold war, colonial age...

Geography class was always more interesting.
