Why does Germany have so many cool looking cities?

They didn't take the LET'S BUILD EVERYTHING IN LONDON approach + highly civilized people in great numbers

They build in harmony with nature. Most houses there don't have central air conditioning or heating, which I find fucking crazy. When I lived there, I had to buy a fan from Saturn just to stay asleep all night without waking up sweating, yet the locals walk around in the middle of summer in pants and a button down without breaking the slightest sweat.

They are all autistic about building green energy structures too, which can either be extremely ugly or very classical looking. (But it is usually hideous, I lived in Freiburg and holy shit that city is depressing)

Better preservation of pre-20th century architecture and infrastructure.

It is a sad reality of the UK that we can have the hideous industrial towns like Grimsby, yet still not be a particularly industrious nation like Germany.

Germany has cozy towns with the industry. We have industrial towns without the industry.

Something bad happened in the 20th century. You can find paintings of cities which today are rather ugly, but in the paintings or old pictures they look nice. Pic related, Reading in the 20th century.

I actually like Brum. It'll get better as long as 1) they preserve the traditional architecture and 2) replace the post-WWII architecture with modern shiny stuff (though not as monolithic as the BUll Ring, which is rather ruined by its monstruous size and uniformity).
