oil's $35 a barrel
all the oil sands investments have evaporated. there isn't a safety net for this. unfortunately the damage is about 50% hysteria, because oil's influence in our economy is overvalued -- it makes us something like 4% of our GDP, so it's not actually that important on the whole.
>>
>>53190858

while I agree with the sentiment, Harper was the one that decided we needed to export so much oil. It was like 20% him, 80% the Saudis. Either way Trudeau had literally nothing to do with it except get elected just as the negative effect of our dollar crashing started to outweigh the positive effects of cheap gas
>>
>>53190181
It's going to keep dropping. They're predicting oil will stock under 50 dollars a barrel for a year or two. Many companies can't make money unless it's over 50 and oil is where most of our countries wealth comes from.

We're in for a hell of a ride and accumulated national debt. But don't worry, we'll be spending money we don't have on muslims so they get everything free while our people commit suicide. :)

It wouldn't have anything to do with $100 dollar oil that creates a massive boom no it must be le evil harper. I didn't vote for him but thats r/canada tier thinking
>>
>>53190931
I wouldn't call it hysteria. The oil companies literally can't make money at most of their wells right now. And since it's a non-renewable resource there's no reason to keep them running to get negative profits. Better just to shut them all down, do mass lay offs, and wait for the Saudi's to stop flooding the market.

>>53190858
Well, Liberals have always been bad for the oil industry. I think that has more to do with taxes and talking about taxes that scare away the jews.

>>53191355
Many of the workers here are from other parts of the country. Loads from Eastern Canada where there are no jobs. It's still the most stable province debt wise but we'll probably eat some debt for the next year or two then pay it off when things improve.

Not disagreeing. I'm sure there's been attempts to screw them over the Saudi's but clearly it hasn't worked. Our countries would have to get off oil almost completely to fuck over their economies. They don't care about their people so they can afford to flood the market.

Pretty good, there's such a high rise in property values that people are using a bunch of services

Bad, no resource jobs.

This country's demographics are just fucked. The baby boomers were born to a generation where women would have 5 kids, now the average woman has 1.6. The government has no way to pay for the healthcare, and immigrants make less than Canadians, but take as many services. We'll be like you guys, only colder in 20-30 years.

Ay.
The glut of oil from OPEC was for 3 reasons.
1) Hurt Russia
2) Hurt Iran
3) Slow emerging fossil-fuel markets in places like the US

They killed several birds with 1 stone. Ingenious. It can't go on forever, but they've accomplished their objective thus far.

>>

>to hurt Russia
Pretty sure it was more to hurt production in other countries, Russia included. Like the US was ramping up production with fracking and off shore drilling. Now most of those little Mom and Pop type companies have shriveled and died or closed up because they can't afford to operate. There was a lot of news saying the US wouldn't need to rely on foreign countries, specifically the middle east for oil as much if they kept going so some have speculated it was a sabotage thing. Saudi's have no reason to do sanctions against Russia for Crimea thing anyways.

Many grocery stores for example get bullied into buying products from certain companies or else they might not supply something during the off growing seasons. Oh so why did they not do it in February or March? They waited till Nobember to start producing more.

Oh and it has nothing to do with US fracking soaring our production to 12 mil a day when oil was $100 a barrel?

OPEC made their decision for one reason. Market share. They give 0 fucks anout Russia in Ukraine.
