Does your country have homegrown fighter jets?

India does.
>>
Once upon a time, we created the most advanced jet fighter in the world.
Then the prime minister of the time cancelled the project because there were no buyers.
That was over 50 years ago.
>>
>>53162438
What did you do with them. Did you crash them into baby seals?

Faggot we've known for years that the USA forced Avro to shutdown development on the Arrow or they wouldn't protect Canada with NORAD. Yanks fucked us over again

it really wasn't. It wasn't as fast as the F-106 and carried a similar armament. Same thing with the F-104

It was cancelled because Canadas counter intelligence apparatus at that time was like Swiss cheese.

It is well known that the Soviets were balls deep in every part of the Arrow project.

It had to be cancelled. The fucking thing was basically fueling Soviet aerospace research and probably advanced it by a decade.

The Australians had similar issues with counter intelligence. That's why even though they are extremely close allies of the US, it wasn't until a couple of decades ago that American finally started to work on joint intelligence projects directly with them.

For a long time the Echelon base in Australia literally had a wall down the middle of the rooms. US teams would be on one side, Aussie on the other.

They now work together and share pretty much everything. Little things like that took a while to come to fruition because of the Soviets and their constant and often successful spying.

not that I want them to stop.
>>
>>53166744

Kind of strange since weapons industry is kind of the only industry we have not outsourced yet.

This next gen thing came as a shock to me because we only made Gripen because we wanted to sell it and make profit (Sweden is one of the worlds biggest weapon exporters per capita), we lost so much money on Gripen so they even sold the software to China behind closed doors.

Hell of a plane though.
>>
>>53166942
it's not outsourcing. It's ToT.
Grippen will be made in India under Indian terms for Indian Air Force.

Nope. We'll start accepting offers for a new jet soon though, 2017 IIRC.
Hoping we get the F-35A or C (if we still need short landing capability), but most likely we'll buy second hand Super Hornets which would be a shame.
