Overijssel literally means "Over the IJssel", IJssel being a river in the Eastern Netherlands. It's a river, and the color scheme comes from the flag of Holland, even though Overijssel was part of the Duchy of Utrecht/Sticht as Oversticht.

Frisia's flag looks a bit silly, the water lillies look like hearts. The flag of Zeeland is beautiful indeed, as are the words "I struggle and I emerge".
