I'm not from /pol/, I just hate this stupid chart considering the Islamic world and China were the leaders in science in that time period anyway, to say Christianity set the world back several centuries is idiotic when it only really effected Europe.
>>
>>53145041
I agree on that too , Europe didn't go further at the time but it didn't really lose whole lot

Was this graph plotted using any reliable statistical data or is it pure 'Religion is bad because it curbs humanity's technological progress!' drivel repeated by atheists?
Surely, you can say that many authorities inside the Church's organization were definitely anti-science but also there were efforts made by monks and other intellectuals to preserve Greek-Roman literature and the fact that the first universities were built during that period.
Scientific Innovation also wasn't limited to Europe; Muslims are credited for the discovery of alcohol as a substance and pioneered on the concept of 'Camara obscura', important optical devices used in cameras to this day, the Chinese contributed with gunpowder which essentially changed the entire world once its benefits were discovered and widely exploited, the Indians contributed with many mathematical concepts and with the almost fabled Damascus Steel.
>>
>>53145844
this
>>
>>53147318
You give too little credit to the church. It was the main reason behind the birth of european universities.
>>
>>53147318
Isaac Newton was persecuted by the church for the theory of gravity lmao
>>
>>53148188
Didn't the Church lose much of its power by the 17th century or so?

Are you retarded? Renaissance no scientific advancement? What is printing press?
>>

But EVERY nation that contributed anything of note since the "Christian Dark Ages" were Christian.

Well except maybe China.

Newton was christian and was more important to scientific and technological progress than any atheist.

What I love about this graph is the way it places the duty of scientific advancement on the shoulders of Western Europe. I mean had the brown people not gotten ass-raped by Turks and Mongols maybe they could have made up the slack.

>Newton was christian
This.

But he also spent just as much time practicing alchemy and trying to determine the date of the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelation, as he did on his physics and math.

But then again I spend my freetime lifting and masturbating, so it's hard for me to judge others about wasting time
>>
>>53150473
thats cause christianity forbids masturbation while atheism obviously doesnt, leaving a christian person with less options to waste his time with and in the end they will do something productive.
check mate atheists

A Greek Orthodox homosexual Byzantine Emperor and violent usurper was teaching a class on Manuel Komnenos, known heretic.

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Manuel Komnenos and accept that he was the most majestic Roman Emperor the world has ever known, even greater than Constantine the Great!”

At this moment, a brave chivalrous Catholic Frankish Knight who had vanquished 1500 Muslims on a Crusade and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all military decision made by the Pope stood up and held up a fresh Septuagint.

”Who compiled this Bible, pinhead?”

The treacherous Emperor smirked quite Jewishly and replied “The Roman scribes, you stupid barbarian”

”Wrong. It’s been 1,000 years since the Roman Empire fell. If it is 1,400 years old and Greece, as you say, is the home of the Romans… then why don't you possess the Eternal City of Rome itself?”

The Emperor was visibly shaken, and dropped his gaudy icon and copy of Plutarch's Parallel Lives. He stormed out of the room crying those Greek crocodile tears. The same tears Greeks cry for the “disgraced Romans” when they jealously try to claw justly earned land from the deserving Crusaders. There is no doubt that at this point our Emperor wished he had more strictly enforced the East-West Union as agreed upon at the Council of Florence. He wished so much that he had the Imperial Sword to kill himself from embarrassment, but he himself had pawned it off to the Venetians!

The students applauded and all joined the Holy Roman Empire that day and accepted Pope Eugene IV as Christ's Vicar on Earth. A double-headed eagle named “Church and State” flew into the room and perched atop the German Imperial Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. Dies Irae was sung several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a church tithe across the country to renovate St. Peter's Basilica.

The Emperor lost Constantinople and was killed beneath its walls the next day.

>>53150914
Oh yeah? So your entire rhetoric is that since the Catholic churches created schools but limited scientific advancement, that they somehow encourage knowledge despite putting a filter on people?

Lol, I wonder WHY religion has nothing to do with learning anymore.

Maybe it's because learning is not something religious people like to do

Unless you see Harvard and MIT as religious centers...Hahaha
>>
>>53144769
In what units is "Scientific Advancement" measured on this chart?
>>
>>53151282
How many fedoras that can be produced with 1 hour of work.

>Lol, I wonder WHY religion has nothing to do with learning anymore.
>Maybe it's because learning is not something religious people like to do

Mind backing up those claims without your feelings?

Science on the other hand says atheist are autistic

Don't believe me?
Well do I have some recommended reading for you!

>>

Way to change the subject from religion filtering advancement to calling me autistic. Great ad hominem.
>>
>>53151796
I could see that. Autists are generally more rational about metaphysical matters so it makes sense that they wouldn't be theists.
>>

Are you referring to the destruction of the Great Library of Baghdad by the Mongolian hordes?

You're the one that made a claim with a question begging epithet

I ask you to backup your claims
Then gave you an example of how to do it

I made a claim and sourced it

Nice Argumentum ad lapidem though
