Why do Australian aboriginals look so different to African blacks? Aren't they the same race?
They are as far from whites as they are from blacks and should be considered a "race" of their own as they came to australia from one of the first migration waves out of africa and were isolated there from the rest of humanity for 30-40.000 years
It's the oldest ongoing culture by far. There's some very cool shit in abo culture but at the same time they never built anything or invented writing.
But the fact that it's so old means that there may be great insights into human history hidden in there, but we'll probably never know because it's all spoken word history/stories, and almost all the abos were killed by disease, bullets or breeding (mostly disease).
No there originally wasn't any concerted effort to exterminate the aboriginals, but over time disease and conflict with settlers killed most of them. There were thousands of aboriginal tribes, australia was once the most linguistically diverse place in the world I believe. War amongst the aboriginal tribes also contributed to them dying.
Although there were a lot of massacres of aboriginals by settlers when they'd steal animals (and sometimes for no reason) etc, there was no directed genocide. However from the early 1900s up until about 1970, children were taken from aboriginal families and placed in orphanages and churches in order to try and "civilise" the aboriginals, they're known as the Stolen Generations. Pretty horrible but not as bad as genocide, canada did something similar with their natives.
Very interesting people. I could instantly tell something was off about their facial features, like Somali/Ethiopian faces are different too. But thought they're african being black and all.
I should say the estimated population of aboriginals went from somewhere in the range of 3-5 million to about 300k today.
They're notoriously ugly. And frankly, they generally are. And not just because of their drug and alcohol problems.
