I guess it's better than Toronto or Vancouver (unless you're a wealthy person), but in general, it's still a shithole. I mean, let's face it, it's not like the "Toronto or Vancouver" bar is very high to begin with (again, unless you're wealthy).

Personally I don't really enjoy living here, but maybe I'm just overly pessimistic. I do know the city relatively well though, so depending on what exactly you're looking for I could educate you a little on the various neighborhoods of Montreal, especially ones which might best suit your needs.

There's something like 40% of the population which is primarily anglophone in everyday life (though only something like half of those are actual Anglos, or maybe even less), obviously they can manage to find jobs. But one thing's for sure: the better your French: the easier it'll be. I can't say for sure, but I don't think it's really a normal occurence for Anglos who can speak French to ever be discriminated against in any way.

Europeans generally don't like hyphenated-Americans ("MUH HERITAGE fags").

That is, unless they need the US support, and then they reach out directly to diaspora and americans with european ancestry. For example, Germany pushed propaganda to Americans with german ancestry during both world wars; and many German-Americans were against US involvement in the wars. It was a big deal during the Irish war for independence (Irish-Americans were being called on directly by the Irish to fund their war efforts). I'm seeing a little of this with Polish interest groups talking to Polish-Americans. They made damn certain that Trump was aware that Polish-Americans voted for him (a voting block that I've never heard about previously), to appeal to his ego in hopes that he will make more firm defense commitments to Poland.
