Porn is everywhere. Most people don't pay for porn since it's easily accessible. Go to ghentai or any other booru, type what interests you and see dozens upon dozens of pics of comparable or better quality than what you would produce.

So people will pay for porn only in 2-3 overlapping cases: it's a new and heavily popular stuff and such porn doesn't exist yet (like I don't know - Deadpool + Antman from newest movie), it's hard to access fetish stuff and a commissioner wants personalized fapworks.

I don't have to tell you that everyone wants to jump on those new fanarts and fetish stuff and you'd have to really be a tryhard to get money out of this and outcompete 1000 other fucks who had exact same idea. Or try to outsmart NSA and draw guro scat child gangbangs for inbred retards living in the swamps of Louisiana.

This is why it's so hard to make profit on that, if you'd think for a minute it's obvious.

Brotip #2: Similar applies to lots of other types of art. It's either drawing what people want NOW and staying current or taking a niche with your distinctive artstyle, ideas + subject matter.

So good look becoming fantasy video game illustrator and making money in the future if you aren't willing to draw art for shitty mobile "japanese rpg" apps.

it is easy mode. relatively. currently pulling in 800-1000$ a month, but my hourly rate is around 15$. better than min wage, but still really tough. i think if i got into more niche fetishes, i could just lower the standard of my work to around half the time, while charging the same. then i would be sitting at 30$/h which would be pretty sweet. maybe i'll expand and give that a shot. but in terms of 'just making some money, i don't want to work a real job' porn is as easy as it gets.

makes a lot of sense actually, I don't actually use color but when I was experimenting with it I spent a good chunk of time trying to figure out a way to fill with color the drawings I had already spent so much time carefully linedrawing. It felt like doing the same thing twice in a row, it's definitely not a fun part imo. If that flatter guy makes his layer smarts, the colorist can completely change the colors as he see fit and then add the fancy stuff.

get into porn. you get in easily, snowball easily, and you can start gaining experience in terms of professionality (tracking your $/h, gaining experience dealing with clients, including shit clients, gain xp in terms of self promotion (no ego attached bc pseudonym so you are free to be an embarassing annoying cunt) etc etc.

i genuinely believe long term it can be worthwhile too (even if you have higher aspirations professionally with your art) for two reasons:

1) at some point you can transition into a very lucrative $/h thing were you leverage your following and fanbase to run for instance some kind of webcomic or something. you put out one page every two weeks (takes you 8 hours) and since you are popular af you cash in via patreon... say... a monthly 1500 or something. at that stage you don't do comissions anymore (much lower $/h) but just keep the popularity train running and people interested with consistant comic updates.

2) your popularity never really goes away. you can at any time of need (say you are now 3-4 years into professional illustration freelancing but suddenly lost a big client and need 1k$ this month for an unexpected reason) jump back into the porn game and pull out a handful of pre-payment money, which you can then spend, and then you start working through the comission queue. it's quite forgiving and i see a lot of popular furry artists who suddenly pop up 'yo guys comissions are open! 10 slots!' and boom the next day they have 10 comissions and 2000 or so more $ on their paypal. ok more like 1700 bc fuck paypal but you get the idea.
