Back then it took years to finish a painting.
Nowadays I'm worried that one of pieces is taking me more than a week to complete.

What the fuck happened?

All posts above me. Remember also that access to paper wasn't really good before its mass production and in case of fresco Michelangelo did he had one fucking chance to do it and he couldn't fuck up because of the medium. That's why he painted slowly and before painting did fuckton of sketches.

As a comparison, Mona Lisa was painted few times over.

Consider also this - when chapel was made through years and you were an artist sponsored by the pope himself and there really wasn't many people who would give you money like that, would you care to finish fast or would you rather like to live from your payment? Yeah...

Nowadays market is huge, paintings can be fixed fast and artists aren't normally sponsored by the powerful and rich, but by plebs on patreon that want to see porn of a fan art.

Michelangelo could have finished it in half the time, if he wasn't such a party dude.

Back then they didn't have so many bills to pay and didn't have photography or print.
