Wanted a shelf for all my screen printing stuff (inks, drawing fluid, random tools...etc.) found some old deck boards on the side of the road, that someone was throwing away, used some left over pine boards I had from other jobs. Spray paint was 5 different reds, black, and brown ( I didn't want the same color anywhere on it, like no shadow was the same as the one next to it, if that makes any sense.) Two days of non stop carpentry, plus painting time, and I ended up with this. Was trying to go for a skyscraper type of shelf with even 12x12 shelves. I saw a pergola that looked really cool, driving home from work the second day and was like why has nobody ever put a pergola on a shelf? so i did... XD .... anyways, what are thoughts/opinions???

Serious question faggots.
If you don't like to draw, why do you come to our loomis hood (God bless him) and complain drawing is too hard, you're not gonna make it, how do I do it?

Literally you may as well kill yourself fampai.
Fucking faggots, if you don't like to draw, then do another thing.

>but money
just learn a trade retards.

Sick of your BS, asking for the same garbage advice: DRAW A LOT, GRIND FUNDIES.
there's not secret hidden technique some sage hiddes from you, faggot.

JUST DRAW, DRAW EVERYDAY.

>but drawing is too hard, I don't enjoy it, how do I motivate myself to draw
Kill yourself.

>he really believes the I've been drawing for two years but I'm still crap BS
lmao faggot.

drawing once in a month for two years isn't practicing.

Do you realize getting good in drawing takes a shit ton of grinding?

you may as well complain any skill is too hard to learn.

god forbid you try music, which takes 25 years on average to reach elite level with just one instrument.
>>
>>3088116
if you don't enjoy to paint why do you care about making it?

the problem is money?
why not get a trade job?

>takes them 5 years
which is the average to become a professional.

of course starting from 0 will take a shit ton of time, but those talented kids have been drawing since they were toddlers, which means their brains are smarter than other kids.

there's not magic, not suddenly genes that make you a god of drawing.

Whenever I draw from the chest or the pelvis I always have difficulty placing the head, it's either too close to the chest or too far away. Is there a fix for this?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Put a light sketch of one head that's too far and one that's too close, then draw one in the middle.
>>
study refs
>>
Study the anatomy of the neck, how muscles insert into the head and upper torso. Study the proportion of the head related to the other parts of the body. Lastly find a ref of a person stretching their neck in different directions and study the length of the neck compared to the head, the distance of the back of head from the upper torso, the distance of the chin from the upper torso, etc.

Drawing people from life or sketches will also help give an innate understanding of where the head should be positioned.

Some say socialist-realism, but googling it provides all kinds of different paintings, only a few are vaguely similar.

This piece is made by the "Mansudae Art Studio" in the DPRK. They sell their paintings but do not do commissions. I would like something similar to pic related but more "American"

Actually I would also call it Socialist Realism. I can't think of too many American painters whose work has the same feeling as the one that you posted. Maybe some of Norman Rockwell's work? Or Morgan Weistling?

Although they are different, looking at some of Rockwell's paintings invoked the same nostalgic and warm feeling I was looking for. I was only familiar with his famous "dinner" painting but I really like pic related. Thanks anon.

I've never bought a painting before, I'm not too sure about pricing. I'd want a modest painting around 3 feet wide and 2 feet high, it would be the centerpiece of my home. I would feel comfortable paying around $2000, I could go as high as $4000, but i'd feel guilty about spending that much and would only do so if I was completely taken by the quality. I am not a rich man.

This piece was originally meant as a gift for a good friend and family member, but I wanted to share it with you.

I was going to buy an Obama Poster, but although I like Shepard Fairey's version (you've seen it, trust me), the eyebrows seemed a bit too dark and the jaw too wide. It bugged me enough to make my own. And I knew if I was going to stand up to Shepard Fairey, I was going to have to a dang good job.

Shepard's influences are similar to my own (graffiti + skate + propaganda), but Shepard's work has a much darker feel.

I began by sketching out the highlights and shadows like I usually do. Often, in order to bring the gender differences to the forefront, I'll draw females and males differently. Males frequently have straighter, angular lines, and females will have smooth curves. I spent nearly two months on this piece off and on (in between a lot of other projects), and let the my mood guide me a whole lot more. Combining smooth and straight lines had an interesting effect, making a much more painterly feel.

The result is a piece that is much more layered and complicated than my usual work, and the muted tones allow me to pull out variations in his skin that Shepard wasn't able to achieve because of his 4-colour palette.

Can someone explain lighting to me? Like i know a few basic things. But i feel like there's more out there to understand.

Short light is supposed to make the character look slimmer and adds more depth and Broad light makes a character look larger but also flattens the figure out.

Hard light is better for revealing tiny details while Soft lighting is better for making things look smoother and flattering.

I know that high atmospheric lighting can make something a chill/friendly look while low atmospheric lighting can make it look more serious/dramatic.

The color of the light affects the mood.

Generally speaking you want to have your lightsource be infront-above-left or right of your figure. which highlights their face/bust area.

I know that it's good to have only one main lightsource.
I know that if carefully placed, rim lighting can help your character pop off from the background.

I know that shadows/cast shadows purpose are to describe the form of an object or figure and can and should be adjusted or removed if they act against that.

What else is there? What other tidbits of information do you have swimming around in your mind when it comes to lighting?

Why not just download the book shown in your image? It's either in the sticky or the art book thread. I have a physical copy and it's more than enough info on color/light to get you off the ground. Certainly better than asking for tips from random people.

This is a creative/inspirational general, come here to draw stylized works in your own style, you can also post yours too
Please keep in mind this is not a critic-free general, so give and receive feedback from others

We have a sole rule
>Before submitting an artwork, you must draw something from someone else first
This is to avoid a excessive numbers of OCs and keep people drawing in general, if you want to post your artwork please contribute as much as possible so we can have a productive thread

Here's the archive of previous drawings and threads, so you can do your own version or just contemplate them

I don't know what to draw in order to improve. I look at a reference thread and it's either something terrible or something I've done before and it would not add much to my skills. But when I do find an image, I work on it a lot of hours, I never do quick studies (it means I can move on). Where do I find references that actually help in getting better? What should I draw in order to improve (generally speaking)?

my father is a good writer, he wrote and published a few novels and he's interested on writing scripts for comics, maybe a short animation. since it's more like a hobby, there's no way he could invest significant amounts of money on it. all I can draw are some low tier characters that only boards that make requests enjoy, and drawing has nothing to do with my profession.
I personally find the idea really nice and I have autistic standards for fiction.

is there anyway my oldman could have his scripts turned into reality?
