How come Japanese artists get so good if most of them don't even do any real life drawing?
I get that most of them are slaves who draw 24/7 and get good at rendering fast, but rendering doesn't teach you form, texture or perspective at all.

Wayne Barlowe is the best at creating and drawing aliens, period. His rendering and technical skills aren't only top notch, but he also creates some of the most scientifically accurate designs you can possibly find. If we were to encounter alien life on other planets, Barlowe's aliens are one of the closest representations of what they might look like, not some blue skinned bimbo or the Greys, of all things.

I challenge you to show me an artist that's better in this realm, or is even close to this person in terms of content and skill.

Nobody gives two fucks about your idiotic challenge. If you must post a shit thread like this; simply say 'i'm a fag who likes monsters, look at this guys monsters' and post more than one image you thick cunt
>>
>>3092275
This isn't a competition. Barlow has been the big swinging dick in alien art since the 80's, when his first book came out - I bought it back then, and watched everyone copy his shit.

As for your contest - what's the point? Are you related to him? Why would anyone care? I would say Giger is up there at Barlow's level - but honestly, who gives a fuck? Enjoy the art, and stop being a dickhead fan. I bet Barlow would call you a dick, if he read this thread.

Do you know more making of videos like these?

I guess most of those videos have Japanese titles so it's quite hard to find them.

Studio Trigger made some for KLK too. Ghibli has some as well, Mononoke Hime comes to mind.

Same, they're stunning. Worth every penny.

I watched the kill la kill making of, I recommend it. There's also the Paprika making of in a different style (focus more on the overall directing of the anime from director Satoshi kon and the adaptation aspect of it rather than the groundwork). Both are easy to get from youtube

Not to sound desperate, but can someone here be kind enough to share some of this guy's patreon work ?

I could only find his old july, august and october batch 1 work.

I'd wholeheartedly appreciate it if you can share some of his other tutorials (that aren't available on the web/google).

Please.

How do you stay motivated when learning to draw? How do you avoid the frustration of not liking what you're capable of.

That's the very thing that motivated, and still motivates me to learn.

Temmie Chang is the main illustrator of Undertale, Toby only worked on the basic sprites and tiles.
>>
>>3088872
>Temmie Chang is the main illustrator of Undertale
Wrong.
Toby did the vast majority of the graphics and characters in Undertale (like 90% of everything).
Temmie only did a handful of graphics and some promotional material.

After all, Toby said he wanted to make everything by himself with very minimal assistance.
That's why the game looks like shit.

I've been reading some ebooks that are pretty good for their lessons and such, but I'm considering getting a couple to keep as reference.

What are some good books worth having around while you draw? What are your personal choices? I have a couple of anatomy books that have been invaluable lately, and I wonder what other books could come in handy while working. I've been wondering if there's anything like a handbook on lighting or color that can be useful while painting.

Personal opinion, but I don't think buying isntructional or reference books is worth it anymore
Video tutorials are usually more useful because you can see the person doing the work. For reference you can use google

So here's a thought.
Getting a job in art non-freelance is something I don't have any knowledge of. So I'd like to start this thread by asking- is using and being adept in the latest and most up-to-date software good for your, say, resume?

I can use Photoshop CS6 and Painter Pro, but I hear from my mates that the artwork you produce won't be as important as using the most up-to-date software, such as Adobe CC- at least, when first signing up for a job within a company. As in, if you're replaceable, the dude with a better program on his resume will get the job. Can I get some confirmation on this? Y'know, from people who actually know how this works, and have experience? Not just any catchall answer that's simply "better art is always going to work" because my mates have jobs and I don't.

Is this bait or are you actually retarded?
Literally no one cares about the different versions of photoshop. If you can use one you can use them all. Why would they care about which version of photoshop you used and not the artwork?

Knowing different programs IS a benefit for you and makes you more likely to get a position though. But it's more like they will hire the guy who knows zbrush and 3ds max and after effects and photoshop over the guy who just knows photoshop.

Part of a series of threads I want to try out. The purpose of this thread is to allow the community to learn together and provide accountability for interested Anons. We will go through lessons and tutorials together to provide us with some structure. Through these experiences we will find how we compare to our peers; which will hopefully drive us to improve and add credibility to critiques. Artists of all levels can join. For those that are not interested, you don't have to join.

Curriculum: Due before next Tuesday.
>Draw eyes in your style
-share refs/tutorials, draw eyes

BEFORE YOU POST YOUR WORK!: If you have more than 5 pages I recommend you upload to Imgur. You can still post your FIRST FIVE pages on here, but post the rest on Imgur... or don't, it's your choice.

IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
