STREET RACING MANGA STYLE
Hey /ic/ I'm from /o/ and needed help with learning how to make cars look like they do drawn in something like Initial-D or Wangan Midnight, some ppl said it looked like they were traced from actual pics of cars then something is done to them in editing to make it look like they're drawn
I'm wanting to get some 80s and 90s shitboxes drawn up to look like something from Initial-D for a short little manga I'm working on and had no idea how to do it
>pic related one of the cars I want to do
>>3109291
you trace car ads, i saw a little thing about it
>>3109291
I think the method is to take a photo and remove color, tweak the settings until it looks like manga. After that they ink, apply some texture and value by hand so that it looks more organic
Asano does it here, starting from 14:00 I think

How true is it that it's not the software or hardware that matter, but the artists skill? Like, a good artist could make something great with a mouse in ms paint but a shit artist can't make anything good even with the most expensive tablet?
I'd like to know before I drop a load of money on an expensive tablet.
No you faggot you can't draw with a mouse as a substitute for a tablet unless you're doing pixel art, get the fucking tablet.
>>3109207
Lies. I grew up drawing with mouse exclusively. I made beautiful pictures of apples no problem.
>>3109205
You don't need a $2k tablet but if you're working digital a decent computer that can handle large file size is essential and a fairly big enough tablet to not kill your wrist.
I have invested in a cintiq even if I'm not pro but it helped me. And the computer I had for the longest time could not handle resolution beyond 3000 pixels.
is ambient occlusion a meme?
>le meme

>>3103990

>>3103990
i saw on tumblr a commissioner post the work i did for them and say "go commission them and if you can give a big tip, because they're work is amazing for the price!". this was for a $50 portrait, feelsgoodman.
>>3103991
ok
be gentle pls
I'm aware the curve of the markings are seriously fucked
>>3103994
good to hear anon! can't wait to be good enough at actually making stuff to get dollarydoos
do any traditional painters here find you have to work fast to avoid a tendency to overwork a piece?
any thoughts or tips on this problem? when i work fast i make stuff that at least looks good in composition or color. when i take my time i inevitably experiment regardless of errors and the piece drifts into a muddy mess.
>>3110958
sounds more like a color theory issue. painting takes time. Keep making mistakes and learning from them
My super dank Rare Pepe, PAWNTHELAMBO was rejected by the scientists over at RarePepeDirectory, so I have to resort to listing it on eBay for fiat, to recoup a fraction of it's true unrealized marketcap. It's good until Saturday

second
to what demographic was the kek meme ever funny
i've only heard 14 year olds reference it in real life so i assume the same to be on the internet
Where do I find references for dead people? Like dead bodies just lying around? But aesthetisized?
Like pic related but just lying around lifeless. Is there such a thing?
I guess you'll have to use historical photos and people sleeping.
Maybe they let you go to see dead bodies at the medical school of your city, but I guess It's more probable if you go as an art student with your class. I did, it was cool.
searchterm suggestions: lying nude, passed out nude, limp body nude
>>3110558
How about stills from documentaries?
medical pictures for skintone and your other colours, poses from crime scene pictures maybe?
How do you people get back on your feet? You know, in those times when you feel like garbage and the worst miserable failure ever but somehow you manage to get back on the track? I forgot how to do it and I am in the same state of misery for quite a long time now.
>>3109390
WHO DRAWS ALL THESE FUCKING WIKIHOW PICS
>>3109390
just do it. turn your brain off, don't think, just do.
>>3109427
I've always asked myself that, there must be thousands of 'em

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

What's wrong with me?
Drawing with nibs is more fun. Than computer. I don't know how people can do it.
Everyone I know is slowly switching to computers and it makes me sad.
>>3109212
Any tips in terms of ink, paper suggestions for best results when doing ink work with pen + nibs?
>>3109245
Don't use anything from the US except hunt 102 nibs( and these are pretty spotty now too). Any Gnib with deleter ink on deleter paper is the most consistent things we use here.
i'm not a fan of him but after never shutting up about hogarth i decided to actually give the book a try and it's ACTUALLY SUCH A GOOD BOOK. it helped me a lot, more than any other book ever did, why do people talk so much shit about hogarth?
>>3107087
bridgeman.
step up nigga
>>3107087
I never really liked his style but im curious about his books.
>>3107103
same i think the artstyle is really ugly but if you actually try to analyze/study you learn a LOT
An old ink on canvas paper illustration i found in a hidden folder (A3 size). Took me about 50hours i think. Did it in 2014. It's a bit crop but the original left me with my old gf. Wondering if it is still relevant to explore this path.. Doing paintings nowadays. Opinions?
>>3106707
You made that?
>>3106719
yes. Was an interpretation of Mantegna's painting
>>3106707
since I would buy that, I think you should continue. Good job op, that looks great!

Source on OP pic's artist?
I've been painting for almost a decade, mostly while homeless (not cracked out or anything like that, very "code of the streets" kinda shit)...
Anyways, here's what I've been making;
>>3110770
Looks like something a lot of other people have made before
Kinda forgot some of the names of the works over the years, but I believe the first one I called "Smooth Life".
(Currently working on the names of this and the next as they're the newest works.)
Does anyone know of any video processes or tutorials where the instructor/artist PAINTS a clothed figure? Paid or not.
Drawing them is much easier; the problem is with painting such complex shit. It should probably be easier.
I want to learn to paint something that looks like pic related instead of some rennaissance-like cape with one million creases and folds.
Don't have any videos, but if you can draw it well I think your big thing is mostly just deciding between whether the creases in the clothes make a hard edge or a soft edge. You can see on your pic that there's a mix of both, some soft gradations as well as some harder ones where there's a bigger fold with a tiny bit of texture too.
I know it's a cop-out but how often do you do fabric studies?
>>3110383
Nah, in this case it's more of an afterthought. More like a texture I would say that wasn't really laid out in the underdrawing of catbib.
Painting something as complex as drapery by dividing it in a thousand plains is probably not the answer. I don't want to spend a thousand hours making a complete tridimentional representation of every fold and crease in my mind every time I want to design a character. Nobody does that unless they're making a drapery study or something and that's not what intrigues me honestly.
>>3110374
just look at this and try to copy. Jesus. This all about edge control, shape, and color, and maybe some details
