How do I get over this "too late to start" feeling?

When I was young I could spend time learning something for the sake of learning.

But now with 25 I feel this need to be good at something. I now have a clear goal of how good I want to be and knowing how long it would take to reach it depresses me. I have this impatient desire to be good enough to visualize my ideas which prevents me from just sitting down and practicing.

How do I get back to the mindset I had when I was young?

Just do it.
>>
>>2843802
Enjoy the learning/creative process, not the result. Time is going to keep moving, and 5 years from now you can either have 5 years of good practice under your belt and be pretty good or have nothing but regrets. 25 is still young, relatively speaking.

I'm 23. I don't see why you would not be able to spend time learning something for the sake of learning.

What's stopping you from just drawing everyday? Is it just you rushing things?

If yes, then we're the same.

The answer is just draw. I'm having problems with it too but most of the time, the only thing that keeps me from making progress is complaining (which you are doing right now instead of drawing).

Make projects, make them feel official. Make a single drawing of all the ones you've drawn in a week, write down what you got better at and what you need to work on in the upcoming week.

Portraits, anatomy, perspective, line quality, color theory. The basics keep you alive and, make time here and then to make something new.

There was a Ted-Talk about how short the human life is and this picture shows exactly. Print it, check all the weeks that you have lived until now, make a portfolio, do studies and all that shit, learn, and now, after each week that passes, put those drawings in that week's page and you have something to show. If you have a week where you have nothing to show, that's bad.

Is composition the most important hidden technique in the sense it separates the boys from the adults?
23 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Depends on your goal.
Most people are too focused on portraits or character design to bother with it, but if you're planning to do illustrations, it's an essencial.
>>
>composition
>hidden technique

How, exactly?

>in the sense it separates the boys from the adults?

Way to make your thread substantially more retarded by throwing this added vague statement.

Anyway, yes, I'd consider good composition a fundamental skill, even for shit like portraits. You can have a skillfully done drawing that's poorly arranged and it'll look bad, and a mediocre drawing skillfully arranged can sometimes still look somewhat pleasing. It'll make a good drawing great.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Flat is justice.

So I've been hearing the rumors about how 4chan is bleeding money due to operating costs, and i have no doubt ic is a part of the problem due to us making new reference threads on a weekly basis. So I was thinking that a solution to that, and to generally make things easier for us, we should turn our reference collections into torrents and share them that way.

This is my first attempt at making a torrent, hope it works:

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:54B76326FB21B7B38E9F2223E45F30077363087C&dn=References.rar&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3a80%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.opentrackr.org%3a1337%2fannounce

This collection consists mostly of female anatomy, and should be particularly useful for lewd artists.

Just spend $30 for a month of NMA and download all of their reference photos. Their shit is far better than this collection of poorly lit porn and heavily airbrushed models. You shouldn't study from this crap.

I know he browses 4chan, mostly shitting up /trash/ and /co/ with his unsolicited opinion on himself, but I've ever found him doing studies or anything. His room tour was full of drawings but they were stylized characters.

I mean on the one hand animation is expensive so if it's going t be a series over a movie it needs to be simple so it's easy to animate quickly. If it's a movie though...I dont see much of an excuse, especially if it's pixar making it.

It's a shitty redesign regardless though

seriously, they had ONE job, just make him look godzilla esque

CalArts and the generic detailed beast bullshit are both cancer. Scrap the whole thing altogether.

Is art subjective? And does realism =/= good?

That's the general meme about this board and I wanna see the consensus.

This is graphite? How the fuck? It's not shiny and shitty like a lot of realistic graphite drawings I see. Also, how did he get such dark value? Can graphite even go that dark?
>>
>>2844964
drawing 1:1 is easy to learn/teach/useless in todays world. Realism from imagination is impressive though.

Good paper. Good camera. Good lighting. Don't shine a spotlight directly on your shit.

what's the upside of being a known drawfag other than you did a bunch of free commissions for people? is it a good way to build a fanbase?

Popularity, easy (You)s and if people like your shit enough you can slowly ease your way into doing more and more commissions.

I'd personally avoid becoming known as a 4chan drawfag, shit can backfire pretty bad if you're unlucky.

For the past year, I've been extensively studying improvement trends by interviewing artists, analyzing improvement memes as well as improvement trends in the galleries as well as looking at the science behind it and I've come to the conclusion that there are "Golden Years" in art.

These are years by which your ability to grasp artistic concepts are at their highest level. This is also the reason why you have so many talented young artists who were able to "git gud" in 2-3 years.

/ic/ tends to emphasize the importance of actively studying fundamentals from books like loomis but after interviewing them and seeing the work they posted I saw that fundamentals were not a factor because the things these artists drew varied from life drawing, to anime stuff, to copying photos, the only thing they had in common was that they were practicing in their golden years.

What are these golden years you might ask? They are between the ages of 13-18. Generally before 13 your brain isn't developed enough to grasp complex artistic concepts and afterwards your neuroplasticity hardens up which makes it difficult. This is not to say that it's impossible but it's much more difficult.

So I ask you /ic/ are you in your golden years? or are you hopelessly holding on to a dream that has very little chance of success?

I'm 40 years old, does that mean I have no chance?
>>
>>2845040
you're not dead, are you?
you've got at least another 30 years in you
spend 5 studying art, and enjoy 25 more of creating shit for the whole world to see

you can do a lot in a single year
imagine 25

That's only if you're young. The op does have a point. That's why most world class athletes started as kids.
