Hello B/ros, do you have any tips about rendering light and texture in pen and ink? (i'm already using "pen and ink drawing" by Alphonso Dunn but i'd like other stuff on that subject or on pen and ink drawing on general).
Thanks!
(the image is an early test i'v made earlier...)

Does anybody here know anything about layouts? I have a class on it and while I'm doing fine im other classes, layout is what's giving me trouble. Composition doesn't come naturally to me like it does other people in my class. Does anybody have any tips or references on composition or anything regarding layout?

Yes.

If you're asking whether you're even remotely good, obviously fucking not. Probably even below average for an absolute beginner. But yes, you have potential.

Pick it appart anon

Here's what I see, A large amount of shallow curves ending in sharp edges, Shading is very flat and is done using gradients probably.

the artist simplifies her subjects using only maybe, a stroke or 2 to show shade as seen on the girl's arms on the bottom illustration or the tree.

They might use a bunch of custom brushes as well. They might also uses a lot of colour mixing effects on photoshop.

Yo, D/ic/kweeds. Should I buy Drawing on the Right Side of The Brain?

I heard it was THE book for beginners to start improving their drawing skills, but I also heard that its super overrated and is actually shit.

Can you lead me in the direction with your advanced pencil snobbery and potentially save me £16.59?

A lot of it is philosophical nonsense, I'd say about half the book actually teaches you. But the half that does teach is valuable to beginners. If you don't want to spend the money there's always loomis fun with pencil, you can find it for free online.
