I'm thinking about making a manga that the alt right will like
it is going to be about a bunch of cat girls who walk around in bikinis, carry guns, ride tanks , wear MAGA hats and go around shooting degenerates and goys and rapefugees, and in their break time, they go act kawaii and cuddle with white american soldiers wearing sexy SS esque uniforms, as they watch the American flag being raised

anything else I should add?

I'm serious, I think the alt tirght are more profitable than furries at this point

Sooner or later, I realized that I was drawing in order to be able to make something out of myself. In order to be able to finally make money or at least be able to compare myself to my peers who were already doing great things. In reality, I lost my simple desire to draw for the sake of drawing, I was doing it for the wrong reasons which is why I haven't been drawing as much. I don't know what I should do at this point

Good gif, OP. I hope to be able to convey such a mood one day.

On to your thing though.

I completely understand.

Happens a lot and usually out of the blue, it'll just hit me.

It's like I've completely forgotten what I've been drawing this whole time for.

And really, it takes me a while to get back on my feet.

I believe everyone probably recovers differently, but for me, it was really looking back through all my memories and just overall doing stuff I did in the past to jog my mind.

Even then I don't always remember, but the important thing is to search out for that missing piece of you.

If you constantly long for it, your subconscious will find it for you.

How it gets lost so often is a mystery to me, but the brain works automatically and sometimes solves the issue for you.

If it doesn't, constantly look, you'll find it, I'm sure.

Get a Prang outlining pencil. You're probably sick of drawing details with a mech pencil
>>

I'm going to offer a different angle to your problem.

People like to win. And people don't like to lose. No matter your goals or philosophy, this is embedded in our brains.

And this applies to art. I have never believed in "drawing for drawing's sake". When you're early in your career winning is easy. Drawing feel really good. You put little effort and you see tons of improvement. Everyone pats you in the back and compliments you.

Even if you're drawing alone, you are still winning at this stage. At this time just a couple of hours of drawing can make you feel satisfied with yourself. It's ridiculously profitable.

But you gain some experience. You advance a couple of levels. And then you're no longer winning.

You realize how much better are others. There is no one around congratulating you or it doesn't feels good anymore. You have to put in exponentially more hours just to advance a little.

Even if you don't intentionally compare yourself to others, your brain does. You know you're losing in this equation. It's like in a videogame that reflects your place compared to others. Even if you give ZERO SHITS about how good or bad you're compared to others, it'll affect your brain.

If your post gets more likes and retweets you'll feel good even if that wasn't your original goal. If someone compares your work to someone better and calls you shit, you'll feel bad even if you didn't cared in the first place. Humans crave to know their social standing.

You said that you wanted to:
>Make something out of myself.
>Make money.
>Be able to compare myself to my peers.
Maybe they make money and fulfill their lives in a much easier and fun way? Maybe your peers are still way ahead of you? In terms of money, how much exactly did you wanted to make? Right after taxes and down to the cent. You have to be brutally honest and specific with your goals.

I'm going crazy /ic/.
Can you please tell me how close you draw to the screen/paper?

The thing is that ergonomics recommend at least an arm of distance to the monitor, but when I'm painting I necessarily need to be very close.

I'm wondering if the arm rule only applies to office work and not for art.

I don't think there is a right answer cause sitting for to long in any posture is bad

idk about eye strain but I've had weeks where I've worked on a screen for 10hrs a day and my eyes are fine. My back killed tho

I did buy one of those 800 dollar ergo chairs and tilt my desk by 10 degrees. The tilt didn't do shit, but the chair did resolve my back problems.

However, like this anon said >>2859528 even in perfect posture you're bound to run into problems anyways if you're in that state for too long. Every 2 hours I tend to take a small 10 minute break. Walk around my apartment and what not.

Hey there, /ic/ newfag, but 4chan oldfag here.

I'm shit at digital art so I paint with traditional watercolours and inks, then scan them in and edit them a little in Photoshop. Here's one of my latest. I usually paint sci-fi dream-like almost lovecraftian landscapes, but also paint less surreal landscapes too. I just wanted to share my art here and see what you all think of it. Will post more in the replies.

Are comics the true form of representing fourth dimensional art, where the fourth dimension represents time, not another spacial axis?

In essence, comics are events that unfold all contained within a singular object. But these events have sequences that can be seen as either the present, future, or past.
If the fourth dimension presents itself as each objects lifespan throughout a timeline (like a snake: not only would you see your birth self, but your current self, and older self all at the same time) then comics could be a simplified representation of said concept.

In comics, there is a collection of panels that describe a moment in time. Wherever your eye lands, that is the present time. Panels before are in the past and panels after are in the future. But the fact that you can see all panels (on the page) represents the idea that they exist at one time.
It could also be argued that you, the reader, exist within the 5th dimension. Being able to travel along time, stop, go back, skip ahead, reverse time all assumes the role of a 5th dimensional being.

To visualize a sixth dimension, each panel would have an infinite amount panels depicting different variances and outcomes. Which is impossible to represent, print, and produce at a reasonable price and size.

What do you guys think? Do other art categories assume this role or have the capability?

Again this is assuming the fourth dimension is Time.

It could most definitely be another axis of spacial depth, I'm not arguing about that. I'm saying that in the possibility that the 4th dimension is time, then wouldn't comics be a simplified representation of said concept?
>>
>>2868982
>>2868985
yes, but so what? you realize movies and animated works can also do the same thing right? you can capture every frame and look at them forward and backwards in time as you would comic panels.

I feel like you're trying be really pretentious about this all and once people say "yes you are right" you can go parade comics as a really high brow concept instead of the painted pictures that they are.
>>
>>2868993
What's with the hostility? I'm just trying to open up a conversation of ways time is represented within art. In no way was I thinking comics is superior in the sense that it may contain aspects of the "4th dimension" in comparison to other works of art.
I was merely wondering if other people agree or disagree, and or if some had a different view on the matter.

Like for example, Duchamp's nude descending a staircase is the first that comes to mind that isn't a comic.
Also, yes animation and film could be considered to have the same traits. Although, when viewing a movie it's usually frame after frame in sequence over a certain amount of time. But you do theoretically see each frame, just not all at once. It is only when you lay out the roll of film, or animation pages that you can truly see it all at once.
But you could argue that possessing the ability to pause, fastforward, and rewind a movie is just another way of representing the viewer as a "5th dimensional being." Putting inhuman capabilities into the hands of a human to control the way a story is presented (the tv remote and the movie). being able to adjust the speed at which something is viewed, like how some movies utilize slow motion, allowing us humans to perceive something that which we cannot in reality. Super speed, or freeze frames achieve the same affect.

It's just an interesting topic that I wanted to talk about. I haven't realized it until recently and wanted to understand how it's been utilized and perceived.

Hello /ic/

I dont come to this board very often, but seeing that this is a place of critique I assume you would be knowledgeable of something I have been pondering for a while.

I have been considering having my friend do a formal portrait of me, I figured it would be nice to have something fancy to hang in my home.

Looking at portraits of important people such as leaders and presidents, I notice there are different poses they take and I wonder if there is any significance to why they decided what pose they did.

I see in some portraits people will look straight forward and look right at the viewer.
Other times they turn their head slightly to the side and they may look at the viewer or even look off in the distance.
Their body may be straight on, or turned to the side.
They sometimes sit or stand.

Do these have a significance in the image they are trying to portray for themselves or is it purely a cosmetic thing that looks the best to paint/draw for the artist?

I want to have a nice elegant portrait but I am not sure what should be the pose. Is there anyone who can offer some tips and insight?

I don't think there is a standard set of "rules" on this sort of thing. The pose of the person will depend upon a bunch of factors like the preference of the painter, the features of the individual (maybe they look better at certain angles), how formal or informal the portrait is, the time period etc. It is common but not necessary to include some reference to the life of the person as well, for example a famous writer might have them at their desk with papers surrounded by books.

I would suggest finding a portrait painter you like, and then look at their body of work and see which poses you tend to prefer. I personally like 19thC artists, so guys like John Singer Sargent or Ilya Repin would be my starting point, but of course your tastes will dictate how you approach it.

Also if your friend is the painter, maybe talk to them as see what their preferences are. You might arrange a meeting in your home for example and try out different poses and things (even do a photoshoot with different options perhaps) and he/she may see something that they think will work well.
>>
>>2869518
Yeah, I'll probably just have to go to him and see what he thinks.

But for many portraits, was the pose just a style of the time? I always pondered if there was more to it, like they looked off in the distance to convey looking ahead to the future or to look powerful. Other times they look to the viewer to try and make more of a connection to those gazing upon the portrait.
>>
>>2869564
Some artists might think of those things, but honestly a lot of it is probably not consciously decided like that. Personally I think looking right at the viewer is a little more formal, and looking elsewhere is less formal as it reminds me of candid observation of the person.
