When imagination drawing, one day I can construct whatever pose I was going for, and flesh it out consistenly. All of a sudden the next day, I'm stuck redrawing trying to figure out that same set of poses. Am I doing something wrong, or is this how imagination drawing is when learning new poses?

It could have more foregrounding. Nice value control in the water which actually looks like it's churning. The dog looking to the left has his head framed by a dark value that emphasizes him in the image and makes him stand out.

The eyes folds of the man and his unibrow stand out. I'd be interested to know if his eyes were that far apart, very often when you're translating a photo to canvas things must be conveyed more tightly. He looks affable but not exactly English, it may be due to the brushes she's using... A good sable is hard to find but I recommend Shesto ModelCraft brushes.

"Practice on paper before moving to digital" why? Why draw on paper? I've got a cintiq, and a note 10.1 and while I suck at drawing, why should I waste paper when I can draw on my tablet while outside?

Why should I care
>>
>>2877407
I think an argument can be made that digital is nowhere near as tactile as traditional yet, and nowhere near as easy to control in terms of getting varied mark making. So if you have traditional skills you have a better idea of what subtleties are possible and might be more likely to try to reproduce them while painting digitally. But if you just wanna paint like sakimichan, don't worry about it.

Hey!
Do you have tips about how to learn anatomy? I'm using the Vilpu drawing manual alongside the book from Joseph Sheppard but i find them just disturbing...

Heve you tried sculpting?
>>
>>2877238
some time ago i tought about trying that but i also told myself that "if i don't know how to represent the twisting/twirling of a muscle on a paper, how could i sculpt one?" do you think that it would improve my understanding of the placement of the muscles on the bones doing that? (sorry fot the approximative english btw)
>>
>>2877245
Yes, because it's a lot easier to sculpt something than draw it. You don't worry about perspective and translatin construction of forms from 3d into 2d like in the case of drawing. You literally only have to worry about putting the bones, muscles etc where they belong. I wish I knew that when I was starting out. Try it, all you have to lose is a couple of evenings and a price of some basic materials + tools, which is much cheaper than the invaluable time you will spend on struggling with anatomy just on paper. Plasticine is cheap as fuck, monster clay is pricier but easier to work with.

There's constant talk about "making it" on this board, but how do you define it? It could, and probably does, mean a drastically different thing to each poster. Is it

1. Being happy with the quality of your art? No matter how good you get, there is always someone better, and even the top dogs of the industry are never satisfied.

2. Getting hired by a studio you always wanted to work for? Your boss might be shit, your colleague might be a diversity quota hire who knows jack shit and gets special treatment and you might get worked till burnout, squeezed like a lemon by a soulless corporation with constant crunches and unpaid overtime until all the joy of drawing is sucked out of you.

3. Working a job unrelated to art and just treating it as a hobby, never reaching the excellence you dreamed of, because you are unable to allocate enough time to git gud.

Is there even such a thing as making it? If you think there is, post your idea of making it or examples of artists who made it, let's have an honest discussion for once. Anonymity can be a tool used to open up, not just an excuse to fling shit without consequence

If I can draw girls cute enough that anons are willing to fap to it, I made it.
>>

You know what, I find it very uplifting. Good for you anon, and good luck!
>>
"making it" is a self-perpetuating running meta-gag for unrealistic expectations juxtaposed with the proliferation of amateurish art in the board (which is fine), and the fact that beginners tend to be fixated on technical development and skewed goals/expectations for artistic growth?

but there's also real anxiety about trying to "git gud" *because competition is fierce, niches are innumerable, and sometimes you just don't know what you want out of the field, or if you have *it* in you to be good enough to make a living off of it.

It doesn't work like that's

Semi-good taste but still fuck you for creating your own thread.
>>
Too many factors that aren't well defined. What is "making it"? What exact age do they start? What type of education are they getting? How much practice are they doing? How talented are they?

As general rules of thumb though, with proper training someone can reach a professional level of competence in 3-6 years. Reaching a master level will take 10+ years, possibly even longer depending on how you define it, and not everyone will actually reach it even if they put in the time.

Yes, there are ateliers like the Watts atelier that offer different courses online. I discovered online ateliers through this video which I found to be very informative:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX0MrnzBJ8M
>>
>>2880330
That video was okay in my opinion. Watts was full on shilling just fucking school in that video and once I realized that I was pretty mad.
>oh normal art schools are shit because they aren't ateliers
>oh ateliers are shit because you can't rewind
>so you know what's best?
>an online atelier
>oh which by the way, mine is the only one
>it's the best
>yes you heard that right
>it's the best
>you can rewind and see things over and over

So, yes OP, you got tricked by Mr. Old Watts who by the way, must be you right? Watts comes to shill himself on /ic/ sometimes. I'm sure of it because no one actually goes there.

Beginner here. How do I learn to draw fat people?

Considering the vast majority of you guys are pompous beginners who have no clue what the fuck you're talking about, why do you retards even bother even asking for advice?

If you want advice, go email a professional artist or at the very least someone who you deem skillful.

Because I can ask dumb question anonymously unlike with a professional artist. I once thought about emailing one and had anxiety the whole day while hovering my mouse over the send button. I just gave up and went back to /ic/.

I'm new to drawing and this is my second attempt at a character.
Where do I need to improve?
Also, do I need to thicken the lining to match the hair?
Is the lighting and shading enough?
