What kind of style does retro-future art use? I found some on google images and it has a distinct 50s-looking-aesthetic, but I don't know what you'd call it.

Kinda looks like a retro-future style.

I don't think there's really a name for it. The genre is called Retro-Futurism and the style/aesthetic just looks like a retro golden age 70s type of style.
There's actually a fairly large reddit community that's into this type of stuff. It isn't exclusively about art but more so about the retro-futuristic aesthetic. You might find more stuff there. (/r/retrofuturism)
ars bros: please recommend me some fundamental art books useful for a guided understanding in art??

Just got done drawing like 6 hours and my fingers are hurting so much. I been drawing crazy hours for the past couple weeks and i'm thinking of taking a week off so I don't permanently damage my fingers.
My question is how do you guys deal with hand pain? Do you man up and push through it or do you look beyond your lizard brain and find creative solutions?
>>2884770
Get software like eyeleo or similar and take regular short breaks. Use gyroball during breaks for your hand. Don't man up whatever that means and make your injury worse, that's just stupid.
>>2884770
Nigger, i draw on pencil and paper, i'm not using a damn software. I hate getting stupid advice on this board.
>>2884770
What kind of a retarded schedule is that, how about instead of drawing for a week and then taking a week off, you draw for an hour and then take 5 mins off. Do the math yourself.
With traditional, my hand is loose and flowing because of all the parallel line exercises (they don't work unless you loosen up your hand).
With digital, I lower the pressure curve and stretch every 10 minutes, as I'm new to this.

Literally who gives a shit? I got michael hampton, bridgeman and loomis.
>>2884786
>I got Bridgman, Bridgman light and Bridgman lite
HOW?
Pic related. In a sketch this is not noticeable, but linework is just impossible to achieve.
How to you guys do?
>>2884531
Buy LazyNezumi or use another program for inking like Sai.
>>2884531
LazyNezumi is pretty awesome, you should try it out if you have linework problems.
>>2884531
Why the fuck do you have to install ANOTHER program to get Photoshop to be able to make smooth strokes? Why can't it already do it? Fuck sake i tried to draw in Photoshop and it was like i had goddamn palsy.
How do you motivate yourself to practice? I have the problem that just putting the wacom out of my shelf or preparing the watercolors, etc. is always a motivation killer for me. I rather spend time then looking for other artworks on the internet instead of making something myself.
>pic unrelated
Usually, my guilt gets to me once I realized I haven't drawn all day then look at how far my tablet/paper is from me. It's far enough that I actually have to get up. Typically I don't get up yet, but as time goes on, I'll just get up and put it in front of me even if I don't draw. The guilt gets to me eventually and since it's in front of me, I might as well draw anyways. Then it gets fun and everything is fine after.
Or I look at art like what you posted, because the mood reminds me that I want to create moods and emotions through my art, so I should practice and be able to reach that level one day. Thanks for the image though.

Some people enjoy drawing, y'know?
>>2884040
Treat studying as problem solving and enjoy it as a process of learning. Don't treat it as a chore.
Also one you start it's easy to then continue for while and get absorbed in it. Just force yourself to get started and before you know it an hour or two will have passed and you will have accomplished something.
It also is easier if you can get into a disciplined habit of it instead of treating it as a big effort to do once in a blue moon.
ok! so i get the jingle bank of ideas and all but that shits just ridiculously allot of "any drawing possible" and its just getting silly as fuck you go there and its like, fuck there is allot of good fucking guys skill wise drawing the shit out of all subjects, for like fun (or so it seems). Does anyone feel traumatized after spending like 20 min in there.
what is the fucking point with that site! ? how do you feel about adding to that pile... whats the story there.? is it something there or im just jealous or but hurt or both, what kind of new suffering is this?
I saw that thing in the beginning as it was taking of and went, hmmm there is something here.. but then it was like damn, this could be worse than deviant in so many ways for the opposite reasons, and then it became a constant reminder of FUUUUCK!
Gimme your take on it im goin nuts !

really nice pieces
pinterest is just a dumping ground for anything though, im sure someone getting into cooking would browse through the usual culinary works on pinterest and feel discouraged too
a lot of people choose to be artists so obvs there's gonna be a lot of different artwork on that site, i really doubt the more intermediate pieces you see aren't made by people drawing for fun
How long do I have to practice till I can draw like this?
>>2885293
Most people can do that in less than a year probably
this is better.
Does /ic/ do form studies like a good student?

What a absolute joke. How the fuck is any of that photobashed mess supposed to be appealing?

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Feng's urban/cyberpunk stuff. His fantasy landscapes and designs tend to look a bit clearer.
>>2884707
it's literally just a "concept" it's only job is to sell the the idea and give you an idea of what to expect overall. it doesnt need to be amazing and perfectly detailed. after all it's
>concept art.
but i do agree. it is a photobashed mess. and im not a fan of the look either. but i get what it's used for in the first place.
Recommend sketchbooks for someone looking to not spend wads of cash? I keep using printer paper but it's not very convenient to carry around.

Honest opinions? I've been teaching myself how to draw for 5 months now and I just want to know if there's anything I need improving on
uh, maybe start with a more confident showing of your art
>>2884968
Firstly, post in beginner thread (I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, I post in there even after two years). Also you might want to actually finish that drawing beforehand so your skill level can be gauged, and next time reduce the size
