I am of the belief that there is a difference between being an artist and being an illustrator, or painter. While having technical skill is great, is it really art or is it a display of learnt technique?
Also, "Modern Art" is not a real art movement. It is a business disguised as art. Modern artists are merely one man sweatshops producing cheap goods.
>>2902085
Modern Art is beautiful in its own way. Although some people don't get it. I don't like some either, but not all of them are bad.
>>2902090
I don't agree after studying it's origins and it's purpose. It is a racket designed to inccur profits for a few while exploiting guillable artists with a worthless philosophy. All you have to do is research and read.
Can I get some constructive criticism for my podcast. Basic premise is that it is a supernatural/ fictional travel guide. I am trying for a nightvale vibe. First episode is only 7 mins:

Should I post to youtube as well?
I like it a lot. really funny! But could use better music editing
Is is better to work small or really big?
What is your preference /ic/?
>>2907727
I work small because fucking comics, I would copy them 1:1 scale as a kid. I tend to draw with my fingertips because of it.
>>2907727
Often times at both extremes it is just a gimmick. Do whatever is most comfortable for you though.
>>2907727
Big, we all know size matters.
Hi guys, I will probably get some hate for asking this here, but I've always been torn between working graphically and painterly.
As such I really love doing oil paintings, But I also really like screen printing, but it's hard for me to do both. I really want to focus on just 1 of the 2 so I can actually start getting a name for myself and become an expert rather then a generalist.
what do you guys think about screen printing?
>>2903305
Do both, don't be a bitch.
If you are an expert in drawing then painting, sculpting, screen printing, etc, are all just crafts with their own idiosyncrasies.
If you want a name for yourself make good work unlike anyone else's consistently.

Mucha.

Hey, I'm too lazy to search through all threads. Can I have a compilation of websites/free e-books where I can learn about geometry, shading and detailed human anatomy?
It's lonely here. Don't let me vanish in the depth of 4chan :(
looking for guides for mecha of japanese archetypes with a bit more technicality like robertson's stuff.
basic figure drawing knowledge is good, yes?
>>2907200
>basic figure drawing knowledge is good
yes - it will give your mechs more weight so it doesn't look like they are just floating around
>>2907200
It's like 80% cool shapes and 20% knowledge of mechanics.

How do I distinguish values? Pic rel with red x.
It's the same value, yet it's very confusing for eyes.
Relative
>>2907175
Connect the two values like this
>>2907268
Holy fuck, it looks like two completely different values are blending, creating a new one. Am I too retarded for art?
Which painting Comp do you think is better/going in the right direction?
Row 1 is the same comp, in color on top and flipped and grayscale on the bottom, Row 2 is the second comp, color on top, grayscale and flipped on the bottom.
Thanks for your help and input in advance,
Anon
>>2907173
Can you put it into words as to why?
>>2907172
diff anon, also column(?) 1. don't like the empty space or the tilt in 2.
>>2907195
shit, nvm about the tilt
freaky illusion though
i've been drawing for quite a large portion of my life and i wouldn't say i'm particularly good at it. but I enjoy it and would like to see what people thing about some things i've drawn. general critique thread because i don't have a large digital portfolio. most of the art i will be posting is also unfinished.
>>2907078
How are you so good?
>>2907078
Critique me please. I am not OP
>>2907344
Blog?
Just drew this. Not trying to go super realistic, trying to be a simplistic art style like minus8. How'd I do?
How about drawing the rest of the figure?
>>2907003
use actual crayons
>>2907003
well you're asking us how you did after drawing something literally anyone could do in like 30s, like what kind of criticism do you want
What are some art schools you recommend /ic/?
nothin' personnel, kid
How do I become good at networking and marketing if I'm an antisocial autist?
Since you're an autist, get really good at what you do and post your stuff consistently. That's about it.
>>2905504
Where do you think you are?
>>2905504
are you an obsessed with art autist or just a regular autist?
aren't kjg's techniques and studies of things basically the same as scott robertson's?
kjg's boxes are just an even more abbreviated form of perspective grids/planes, and his "autistic" memory for structure/function is just the same thing as the visual research that scotty talks about in his book.
kjg just freehands everything instead so while it doesn't look as mechanically tight, it's still cool in an "illustration" and not concept-art way
>>2903590
I mean they're both using a ton of perspective in their work, but their approaches using it and thinking about it are pretty different.
What's your point that you have to create a thread about it?
>>2903590
"Space" is a constant in what they're trying to depict, how different could their methods be?
Draw like a beginner thread.
Pretty much self explanatory. Try to draw as shit as you can. Its harder than you think.
>>2902583
Left hand, tried to remember what I learned from those "how to draw manga" books I read when I was 10, shitty blurry photo that's not in the correct orientation and at a ridiculous resolution.
>>2902583
you guys are too good.
Graffiti artists of /ic/,
What advice do you have for someone starting their first large-scale (mural size) project, supplies and logistics-wise?
Also - Graffiti / Spraypaint General
Specifically, I'm being commissioned by the owner of one of these lovely 40-ft containers (pic related) to cover it with a huge mural. I am wondering if there is a particular brand of paint that works best on this kind of metal, or can endure water and sun really well ( it happens to be in Florida )
