I see my art as the only thing that is worth anything in my life. Without art I see myself as a completely worthless person and the problem occurs when my art doesn't get as much views or likes as I would like it to get. I feel like complete trash after that and basically want to end myself, how can I deal with this? It's a deep rooted issue but I have to start somewhere, I can't live my life thinking of myself this way if I want to create anything (as we know, creating requires mental energy).

I won't post my art because it's more of a psychological problem and it doesn't matter how I draw - in the end the issue would stay no matter the skills.

Draw fan art, tag it, and even if it doesn't get any likes you contributed to the fandom. One day someone will find it and then find you. Think of it as throwing a bottle with a note in it out in the sea.
>>
>>3120578
To gain followers for your art, start by creating fan art to gain an easy audience while befriending other creators; suck their dicks to gain shout outs and free advertising.

If it's a matter of skill, then just simply keep practicing and get critiques and guides from /ic/.

Does anyone else seem to believe they paint their subconscious while trancedly painting randomly. This was originally meant to be me speaking to my therapist. Too embarrassed to confess about my compulsive masturbation and other shames I can be seen slouching over On the couch.

here I've spotted a shadowy man on the floor seemingly clutching his green penis. I also see a duck and a rooster. And what appear to be prison bars behind the therapist.

Lately I've been just sort of doodling but with paint. Basically smearing paint attempting to make it look good. Sometimes I'll see a form that looks like an actual object and I'll try to refine it into that image.

Is there any artistic worth in what I'm doing , or is it just good practice? Has anyone done anything similar?

If you make it into an actual painting, yeah. I don't see anything refined in your pic.

>or is it just good practice?
Are these the only options you can think of? No, I wouldn't call it good practice.
>>
>>3120496
well this is in essence "thumb-nailing". It's when you make random shapes with different values in an attempt to organise a composition before you actually start to paint.

It's like a sketch except that you're 'sketching' out value patterns and shapes instead of lines.
>>
>>3120502
>to add
but if you're just randomly smearing paint over the canvas with no thought behind it then it's just nonsense.

Memes. Genuinly the president posts visual memes and everybody loses their shit. The idea is much stronger then the art piece itself. Memes yes just accept it. Memes.

How do I start seeing what is there and stop seeing what I know I'm looking at?

By observing and analyzing the shapes, more than you draw. Constantly stop yourself to see what's in-front of you, as soon as you become impatient and want to wing it, stop yourself and go back to observing.
>>
>>3118639
whoa holy shit that picture gave me the heebie jeebies jesus christo.

uhm. well i have some advice too i guess.
Artists have processes to their work. Every piece that looks amazing had a lot of versions and studies and many many barebones groundworks sketches behind them. You can believe that people don't but then it's easy to be a human render farm in this day and age.

In any case, the point I am trying to get at is that you must attribute the act of looking with your eyeballs as part of your creative process. Don't just look and curse yourself because the entirety of the image didn't get auto-stamped into your brain. Look for very specific things that help you build up the image, in the real world.

That is why people always tell you to practise construction. Practise breaking down what you see into its most prominent mechanics and features, like /v/irgins who are too bitter, they can't enjoy games at all because they play it and boil it down immediately into specificities and buzzwords and assume what will become of it later, simply because.
Contrary to stigma, that is a form of confidence which might seem cringeworthy, but is strength when it come to facing the unknown. Call it stupidity but when you believe you know what you are looking at then at least you can get started on it, and force yourself to understand the intricacies and quirks of the subject matter over time. Because that is also important: time. You have to look at things for a long time.

Anyways, don't post that picture ever again.

They won't teach you shit, you gotta self teach then apply that to the project you're given. Luckily art schools give you a lot of freedom and spare time to do what you want, it's up to you to spend that student finance on online courses and real life workshops. Start researching and building up a list of those opportunities.

Remember Art School is only useless if you make it useless, use the facilities and always apply to the opportunities given to you. Don't skip an optional life drawing session just because you're not feeling it that day, push yourself and you're work.

When you first start you'll either be in three categories.

>time waster - there but can't draw and doesn't want to learn, they stick to their "style"
>catching up - you're not the best but you're willing to learn people/tutors will either generally ignore you including tutors and teachers
>the "greats" you're one of the few best in the class, expect favoritism from the tutors and passive hatred from you're fellow pupils and people sucking up to you

Work on personal projects outside of class and go on drawing trips, don't use you're free time to waste hanging out with friends at the cinema. You can do this every now and then, but make it a reward for hard work rather than just because you can't be bothered with drawing.

Other than that, make a finance list on what you're spending and be smart. Here's my finance plan for this next term coming up, along with a project template which you can change to whatever you're interested in.

Why do you care? Is your circle composed of people who will chastise you for this?

Would pencil + copic markers get a result that looks like pic related?

It looks as though the drawing was initially laid in with pencil, markered on-top, and then pencil again to darken/tighten up lines.

it looks like watercolors over ink to me. but it could easily be markers over pencil i guess( the grey parts definitely look a lot like marker-grey) , i certainly think you could easily achieve that look with markers either way.

Well I know there's a demand but how many artists even bother attempting photorealism when we have high def cameras
And how strong is the appeal

>>3120551
Photorealism developed AFTER AND BECAUSE OF hi-def cameras retard. They're considered photorealistic because they're BASED ON PHOTOS

FUCK
>>
I hope it dies, it's a pointless and unimpressive task to me. Like, make something new, the whole point of art for me is creating things a camera can't capture.
>>
>>3120551
Look up every color pencil artist ever, they all trace photographs like the photorealists.
