Hey /ic/ so there's a site called stickk.com
basically it's a place where you sign a commitment contract based on a goal you set, and each week if you don't do what your goal is the site immediately donates whatever amount you set to a charity you hate.
I'm looking for an accountability partner aka referee to keep up with my 3 week improvement/study art schedule on the site, if you make one too I can be your partner as well. Strangers work best because of ruthlessness and you can't get out of the pressure/motivation because losing money is a high risk that you can ultimately prevent by doing what you know you need to do. It's kinda extreme but... if that's what it takes.. and well, that's what it takes for me.
My name is svette on there, add me if you wanna partner. Hope someone is needing an outside pressure to really start working on getting better as much as I am!
pic semi related: the schedule I'm making myself do you can make your own/be inspired by a schedule with this artists downloadable version: http://suzanne-helmigh.deviantart.com/art/Make-your-personalized-work-schedule-447913008

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.
there. kick rocks.

>Is art school worth it?
if by "it" you mean $100k in crushing debt that keeps you chained to your barista job after graduation in a shitty apartment when you should be building your art career, then no. No it's not.
I don't know how else I can word this
But why are they present?
In photo 1 and 3 they are water ripples caused by wind.
In photo 2 it looks like the black lines are narrow dikes running through shallow water. You can the wind is being blocked, because the water is still/smooth close to the dikes, while further away the wind is rippling the water.
Any d/ic/ks at IFCC now? Is there a secret /ic/ handshake we could use to recognise each other?

Download and make custom brushes. Artists sometimes post their own brush packs that they like using

Sick and tired of seeing all of these eyes with different colors, shapes, sizes. When will this stupid, Tumblr, snowflake trend end?
I'm tired of seeing all of these shit threads, mike.

I'm transfering to university this fall to finish off my degree. I've definitely heard the gospels of art school being worthless, so spare me. I'm mostly going for the sake of having a degree at this point.
Art school is what you make of it, especially if you're not going to an actual art school but a program in a university.
Did you guys enjoy it? Hate it? Drop out?

I went to a community college for my first two years of college, and found they had a strong art section, with great classes and a strong student community. I really dove in - because I was working and taking my time, it took me 4 years to get the credits to transfer to a 4 year school - but I'd taken so many art courses, it was worth it. ( I also got into stage lighting, and almost switched majors to that.) I took all the beginning courses, and intermediate, and advanced, in drawing, art history, composition, life drawing, painting (water color and oil), and had a strong portfolio and a student juried second place award for an art competition. I then went to a school with a strong illustration department, and studied under some brilliant teachers, one of whom was an illustrator for the New Yorker magazine. Another was one of the art directors for the NFL. That's when it got hardcore - the core illustration classes were brutal, but I also got to take advanced anatomy, sculpture, more figure drawing, print making, color theory, design, and more art history.
I loved every minute of it, made a ton of friends. Would do it again. I paid for the last years myself, so they really counted. The program was small, so it was very competitive, and they openly stated they were going to try and chase away the less than serious students, so our illustration classes were generally about half the size as they started out.
Considering how much I learned, from brilliant and talented teachers, and the friendships I made, it was completely worth it.
Art is like anything, too, when you finish up - it's who you know. You never know, the art director you're submitting a portfolio to could have been in one of your classes, or one of your teachers.
We also got a LOT of info on how to build our portfolios, how to deal with clients, stuff like that.
If you are naturally talented it's better to learn without it.
If you aren't a natural they are a big help... imo.
i went to school for digital media and game design when i really wanted to be a game artist. still not sure if i should should be going into graphic design or art. i have some schools picked out but my parent's don't want to shell out more money on education for me. so i'll need to take out more loans or save up some money in the mean time.
I would like to buy heavy paper, good enough to do water color sketches on but not good enough for multiple washes of watercolor.
Where can I buy this type of paper in bulk?
I don't want to be afraid to waste the pages in my sketchbook. I like using loose copy paper in my clipboard for pencil sketches
There's 3 weights of watercolor paper, typically, with commercially made papers - 90lb, 140lb, and 300lb. You probably want 140, 90 is cheap, thin student grade stuff. (lb in this context is how much 500 sheets of a full page would weigh, in pounds - watercolor paper is usually made at 22x30")
Dickblock.com has bulk discounts, and bulk options, like this:
http://www.dickblick.com/products/richeson-bulk-watercolor-paper/
I would get the 6x9 at 135lb. If you want smaller, you can easily have that cut in half, in bulk, at any small printing company that has a hydraulic cutter.
I've never used Richeson paper, so I'd get a sample first and try it. If you have a real art store near you, you should go in and try the papers, they're all different, in terms of finish and sizing and materials. I have always preferred 300lb Arches hot press, but you may prefer cold press (more texture).
>>2987882
thanks for all the information.
The 6x9 looks like a good deal, I didn't see it at 135 lb though.
I do like larger size pages, and hot press too.
watercolour paper works well with ink too.
Do you ever try and create edgy art but then you all of a sudden lose interest and shit like this happens
Delete this garbage
He created the xenomorph and other amazing creatures. One of the best artworks ever created?
Kinda overrated and very kitsch. I like his benis in bagina :DDDD stuff, but generally it all looks like was made by edgy 13 year old. At least guys like Beksiński are subtle and there is a lot of artism in their work. Giger is 100% American "in your face" vulgar.
