no, why?
So, what is /ic/ opinion on tracing?
When is right when is wrong?
when is tracing and when is just reference?
> oh look its one of these threads
so a /pol goes to /ic ... It's so summer in here
>>3000856
what the fuck are you talking about?
>>3000861
He's one of these fucking idiots who sees a white cop and a white kid in the 50s and thinks its white supremacist crap. He deserves perhaps not death, but to be flogged with glass bottles.
I think tracing is alright. The artist took some liberties, as well, but I also think that not crediting or paying the photographer is wrong. This is a very, VERY similar work, but as long as the artist gets permission from the original source to use the work I see no problem with it.
You'll get these fags in here who think tracing means you have no talent, but honestly their work is always terrible. If you want to eventually break away from tracing then go for it, but don't shit on other people's methods.
Ciao's are on clearance in stores, doesn't look like it's online. However, they aren't coming up on clearance in their system, and list themselves as 12.99 regular price. Used a half off coupon, got six markers for less than the price of one sketch! Bought all 3 sets my store had after the bitch before me bought the other ones. -__- Just a heads up! <3 Get those markers.
>>2992004
Forgot to mention MICHAEL'S. haha.
>>2992004
How long is the sale going on for? I'll pop into my michael's to see if there's anything cheap after work.
Since we're talking about Markers, here's a one-month lightfast test I made of the china dupe called TOUCHFIVE markers. The colors are rich themselves, but are very bleed-heavy, so you'd need a marker paper with them. Though at 50 cents a piece, they are a good trial if you're not sure if you want to get into markers.
It's hitting month two, so I'll be taking down my samples again for another photograph. The greys at one month were almost indistinguishable from the originals.
Can someone recommend me a good basic skintone that isn't E00?
The store I'm ordering from doesn't have E00 in stock.
cool rite?

Are these threads bannable yet?
Old mate Taleb proposes humans like complexity in art/design, things like fractals, filigree, etc.
Thoughts/examples?
https://youtu.be/B0hMS4eUVV8?t=2370
And his thoughts on why older aesthetics are going to return. Talks about longevity of different techs earlier in the talk, basically, statistically cars will be around for another 100 years because they have survived/been in use for 100 years already. Says the same is true for aesthetics.
Any art historians here?

>statistically cars will be around for another 100 years because they have survived/been in use for 100 years already
That's a bit of a weird rule.
He's right about the human eye being attracted to visual noise and density, though. That's no secret. It's what you use on focal points.
>>3011899
So 50 years ago cars would've existed for another 50 years? When new tech comes out it lasts for a day?
But I'm thinking about those animation/art freelance studios that secure big contracts for bulk work. Someone's the CEO of that. Someone thought the idea of that kind of company up. That person is loaded.
Look at Feng Zhu. Fucker is loaded. Craig Mullins? Honestly don't know, but there's no way he's hurting for cash. The best artists are the best businessmen. It's as simple as that.
Point is, I guess besides wanting to spark a discussion on this, all I gotta say is that for me, personally, I ain't satisfied with just being that freelance hustler making ends meet.
Why work hard when you can work smart? Social and business skills are actually more important than your art skills, even though the latter is important, too.
Thanks for the blog update champ
>>3013135
You're just trying to skip a lot of steps. Everybody wants to be the director or the art director but you actually have to get your hands dirty to get there or you just need to be fucking loaded starting off.
>The best artists are the best businessmen.
Yeah. The guys with the most money are the guys who are good businessmen but the guys you mentioned did decades of work to get there.
What's your point?
Interesting and challenging Statue/model/study references.
Preferably with an interesting interaction with light.

im back
I know I should drop this but its actually for a job so I can't.....
I don't know if I should have the lighting like the left or right. The left doesnt really look correct but the right looks like there's too much light I think.
Not much progress because of so much projects at uni the last few weeks
>>3001647
The right is way more better dude, also nice job
>>3001647
This is the last one I did for this person and they're in a set, so I need the quality to be the same as pic related, but they're really different subject matters so I'm having trouble telling where I should tighten up.
I bet a bunch of you also have facebook pages. Numerous artists have them and it's a good way of getting followers.
How many fans do you think you'd have to have to consider yourself popular? How much to start making money?
Friendly reminder that Loish has 1,2M, Cyarin is 156K, Cyanide & Happiness is 12M, The Oatmeal is 4M.
How do they fuckin do it.
>>3013156
>How much to start making money?
Fans don't translate to money, OP.
Anyway, for fame you ride on trends, submit to everything, and regularly - I mean near daily, at least weekly - put out new content or put out stunning content if longer than that.
The Oatmeal is perfect as a case subject. His entire career is Search Engine Optimization. Not an ounce of skill to his name and he built an empire. Study him, OP.
But for cash you need clients, not fans.
>>3013171
>His entire career is Search Engine Optimization
Huh? How is that?
>>3013156
C&H and the Oatmeal are comics, so no one gives a fuck about the quality of their art, just look at SMBC. Bill Watterson wept.
Loish seems to have a good sense of color and light and applies these to saccharine teenage fantasy worlds
Cyarin is boring as rotting shit in a sewer, but she has big titties and a vagina
How do you manage a (non-art) full-time job and progressing in art?
>>3008520
Change your routine so the job is the last thing you do before dinner and going to sleep, which is to say start your rutine at 2AM go to sleep at 5-6Pm
relatively easy comrade, sleep between 2-4 hours a day like moi
if you ever need a kick get caffeine pills and shy away from sugars
>>3008520
what's your job?
i have a desk one and usually have some time to doodle and practice ideas.
then again, i'm beginner.
We need to discuss this thing.
Before you reading this let you know that i am not girl, feminist, sjw (whatever you call it) and my native language is not english.
When i look at your drawings, lurking your insta, tumblr accounts what i see is mostly beautiful, cute literally perfect girls or perfect porn. I've come a long way but i am so confused when i thinking about what should i draw now. I know drawing perfect girls might be also aesthetic but drawing beautiful girl or porn is not art for me. Their life is already perfect and when we drawing it we make them more valuable, so what about the others? It makes me very uncomfortable. For some people it is bait for horny white males and they make money from them. For some people drawing for fun. What do you thing about this?
Is it the only why to make money, get attention?
and yes the irony.
>>3008165
probably mainly people just like looking at girls, so they draw girls.
but i've been thinking about it a bit and i think it's also a kind of crutch (for me at least) i think it's very easy to make a cute drawing of a cute girl compared to most other subjects. and i think i, and probably other people, use that to trick themselves into feeling good about mediocre drawings.
yes, the only way to make money with art is to draw cute anime girls. everyone else who tried themselves at different branches of art was shunned and died of starvation eventually.
>>3008165
People are naturally drawn to beauty so it shouldn't surprise you that many artists want to create beauty in their work.
That said, there's more than enough tumblr art of obese women with hairy legs, stretchmarks and giant noses out there that is fetishizing and idolizing ugliness. Not to mention in postmodern art there are entire artforms dedicated to shock value and ugliness. So you really shouldn't have to feel left out here, there are plenty of artists who think ugliness is a more worthwhile subject for art than beauty is.
Hi /ic/, I'm planning to go to some live model drawing classes, which will be my first time. I don't have a lot of money, so I can't afford a lot of classes, so I was wondering if some of you guys who got more experience with it got any tips. I really want to get the most out of them because it costs a lot for me. So any guidance would be extremely appreciated, or just anything that could be useful to keep in mind. The classes that I'm planning to pay for do 3-15 min poses.
>>3012805
I'm also very doubtful about going right now as it maybe isn't the right time yet and I should improve a bit more. Here is some of my work that I just made. It is worse than my average work though as I had a long day of work and I feel really tired.
>>3012810
sorry, forgot to resize.
Where do you live?
ok guys, im bored af. give me character design descriptions or concepts and ill attempt to draw them for practice, make them ur own ideas please. post references if u must

>>3012620

>dude that's a good drawing!
>can you draw me?

>>3011176
