Hi, I really enjoy writing. Also I want to become the best writer that I can be so I was wondering if anyone in this group could give me some critical feedback on my writing. I'm currently writing a spoken word origin story series telling the tale of how twenty two children were recruited into a soldier program.
One of the ones I've already released is linked below.
Once again, I would be extremely grateful to anybody who can just sit down, listen and give me some feedback.

I wasn't sure cause this one also was under critique.
thanks for clarifying

np, they currently have a critique thread running so be sure to not open your own or they will hate you
>drawing any fan art
>using trending hashtags
>only drawing sexy/cute females
In what other ways have you sold out, you shill? Have you no shame?
Anyway, what other ways can you promote yourself and expand your audience?
>>3017978
I draw ugly ass niggas when I'm doing life studies otherwise I'm drawing 10/10 tiddies you faggot. Fuck you.
>>3017978
does it count as selling out if the only fan art i ever draw is from really obscure games that no one ever looks for fan art for?
>>3017993
I think it's better to draw fan art for niche audiences to be honest. Like if you start by drawing DBZ or something it's unlikely it'll get noticed at all.
Anyone else mess around with Wet on Wet oil painting (Bob Ross, Bill Alexander, Kevin Hill)?
>Finally has the balls to start drawing for the day after procrastinating for the past 3 hours.
>Trying to somewhat warm up. Referencing off an ink sketch on art person I like on pencil.
>Not getting into it. Messing up.
>Losing confidence, getting frustrated.
>Gives up and plays video games for rest of night.
>Cycle continues next day.
tl;dr - Any tips on getting motivation or enthusiastic about referencing?
I would love to spend 6 hours a day just practicing or just sketching for the hell of it and stop being a little bitch, but I keep on getting distracted or frustrated.
>>3015566
No, you think you would love it. That's bullshit idealization. It's not easy and fun as you think it really is.
>>3015566
Motivation is useless unless there's a very important reason for you to get motivated at all. Get your lazy ass together and force yourself to draw for a certain amount of time every day.
Same thing goes for working out btw.
If you can't manage to keep up you're simply not fit for this hobby since you're lacking interest in the first place.
>>3015566
Try it once, fail, give up, and then question why you even tried it in the first place, like a normal person.
>mfw I see people that treat Deviantart like facebook and upload nothing but photos of normie shit
Is there any point in using Deviantart still over tumblr?
>>3013672
Deviantart is more accessible to people who aren't knees deep into.. I mean, people who don't use tumblr. It's actually designed for artists, whereas tumblr is like instagram with bigger pictures.
>>3013672
Tumblr just sucks all around for artists the only reason people use it is because its the most popular, not because its better

Thoughts? He even backed it up with facts, too.
>>3011858
I recently watched Persistence of Vision. What a great fucking documentary.
I've seen artists only put on music when they get through the hurdle and/or when they get so deep into the fucking zone the music is already there but nothing is coming out of their headphones.
>studies have proven bla bla bla
>no fonts
>no links
>talks about bunch of isolated studies about things that have nothing to do with art and learning
>is a shitty artist
Welp, intro le trash it goes.
Literally who?
Is there any reason to be proud of reproducing a picture of a landscape. like even if it wasn't traced and was made by finding the vanishing points and measuring; does it really count as skill?
I'm not sure if I'm wasting my time drawing these landscapes or if I would get more valuable practice from drawing from imagination.
Does the skill transfer?
>>3017917
well, i think it's hard to do, at least...
but i've felt sort of the same way. i've had my doubts about just copying stuff i want to learn.
it often feels like i'm just hoping to eventually absorb the right art knowledge from it. recently i've taken to a different approach though: i look at a long term goal, think about it and find how to break it down into a set of really specific skills. then i can practice those skills in a pretty straightforward way. for me it's helpful to do this just for the fact that i know exactly what i'm improving, whereas just copying stuff can be like feeling around in the dark.
so i don't know much about drawing landscapes/environments in particular, but i think it might be helpful to look at what you want to accomplish (like being able to design/draw environments from your imagination or whatever it is you want to do), really think about it and break that goal down into specific skills that you can practice really deliberately.
random example off the top of my head: maybe one of these small skills is intuitively seeing the horizon line and vanishing points. so an exercise you might do to practice that is to get a photo and place the horizon line and some vanishing points on it very quickly, without thinking much. just by guessing. then, you actually measure and plot out the horizon line and vanishing points properly, and see how far off you were. not sure if that's a good example but you probably get my general idea.
in my opinion, short anwser: yes, the skill absolutely transfers.
Is it something I should put in my portfolio? Is it okay to be like "I painted this photo that I took." Is that acceptable portfolio material?
Crit pls. It's a Deinonychus antirrhopus, using Scott Hartman's skeletal diagrams.

what think
>>3017700
Intriguing. They look like ghosts. Like something from Francis Bacon.
Do moleskines make for good sketchbooks?
>>3017419
Well that kind of depends on the paper and amount of it, the moleskin itself does not matter.
Looks neat though, better than some tacky t-shirt design or charcoal sketch you see on most.
>>3017424
I've heard the pages aren't as thick as they used to be. They still have that off-white cream tinge to them though.
>>3017419
Not for a very long time imho. Original moleskins were inexpensive. Now its for people trying to broadcast an image kinda like writing with a quill, playing an acoustic guitar in or near a coffeeshop, or wearing a fedora. There are better options and alternatives out there nowadays.
Does anyone here have first hand advice on oil painting without solvents, by using walnut oil instead?
I'd like to pick up oils on the side (I mostly do watercolor and gouache) but the toxicity issue is keeping me from it, especially since I've got pets at home and no dedicated studio space.
Any known oil painters who use walnut oil?
I have pets and no studio space. As long as you aren't a complete retard and keep your place ventilated (ie open a window) it's really no biggie. Use gamsol instead of turps, use a dipper with a lid and keep it closed as much as possible. You can also look into Zest-it which can be used instead of gamsol/turp and supposedly is completely safe (it's made from citrus fruit peels) but I personally don't like how it makes the paint behave. You can also look into water-mixable oil paints, Winsor and Newton's Artisan line is one. Good luck.
Never tried walnut oil. Have you considered water mixable oil paints? Cobra, Winsor and Newton, Holbein, and Daniel Smith all manufacture ranges.
>>3013888
Yeah, but they're expensive and the feedback I've heard so far is that they don't perform nearly as well as traditional oil paint.
I came here for first-hand experiences. Meanwhile I found this video and it doesn't seem to advise against using just oil as thinner.

Is it ok to do one of these threads?
if it is, lets see some variation.

Go back to /beg/ faggot
>>3017340
why? why does everything have to be /beg/ this /beg/ that, can't people have some fun?
>>3017344
The board you seek is /i/ my dude. /ic/ is no fun allowed.
Posting some illustration that made me realise my color skills are CRAP. And /ic/ tells me how to learn color theory.
>>3015169
Colour is like the least impressive skill, any idiot can do it.
"Warmer" colours attract the human eye more (next to high contrast). Never delineate form with values within the same hue, it gets "muddy" and don't be afraid to shit grey all over the painting.
Colours are relative and you're better off with warm shadows on a "cool" (white/light blue etc) light source and cold shadows on a warm one. As long as your values are alright, you can and should get away with bloody murder colour-wise.
Boom, colour theory. Anything more you can do on your own.
Is getting into a Concept Art career more of a who you know rather than what you know?
>>3009840
Judging from her work which for the most part, isn't phenomenal, it could be the case. Granted, she has worked on an actual well known video game and seems to be decent when it comes to post production accessories work. https://www.artstation.com/artist/beccahallstedt
>>3009840
>more of a who you know rather than what you know
this applies to any business or job opportunity in life
>>3009847
Her texturing work seems in line and good but she has bee hired as a concept artists too. Ive interned with people at Guerrilla who do far better work that applied for the blizzard Internship and got no reply from them.
