Are there good books on designing realistic mecha?
Something that goes into the details of the design, explain shapes and such?

Something more advanced that just put random vent here, some panel there and a few bolts here and a large gun in its hand.

Found one book that might be good but if this book is actually uploaded anywhere, it is burred under tons of spam and virus downloads.

Real life, maybe?
Look at actual robots, machines and military hardware.
>>
>>3023604
Looked, have whole folder of various machines, robots and such.
What I am more interested is where does artist gets inspiration for it, for example you can see many mechs having various elements that are repeated over and over again by many artists.
Examples are:
Bubbly armour, panel layout, round flat shapes on hands and legs.
General shape of the armor, where does it come from, is it taken from some sport equipment and altered, what was the source of inspiration here.

Would like to find a book that goes into it.

Got banned from rule34 because my username was racist, so now I can't shitpost my shitty pornography there.

It was a nice gateway to a large portion of the internet, as well as a place which I could post the more fucked up types of art that you wouldn't find in Normie sites, while also being diverse enough (not only furry/hentai/pony oriented) to host my type of content. So now I'm pretty lost. The feedback was crucial for my progress.

Any suggestions on similar and equally popular sites where you can post your twisted fucked up art like rule34?

No shit, hence the "shitpost" aspect of the problem.

You'll get no where if people won't tell you where exactly do you suck.

Also SS and Loli is forbidden there, so that's also a problematic limitation

I feel like my motivation doesn't come from a good place, and that's why I fail to maintain it.

I'm a very envious person, but I struggle with depression and panic attacks, which often results in me struggling to maintain a habit in things. I've tried starting the path to getting gud for years now, trying to fuel myself for my envy of much better artists, but always end up either falling out of the pattern when my depression doubles down or giving up when I see how the people I envy are not slowing down/just getting further ahead of me in advancement.

You focus too much on other people and need to focus on yourself. Just keep drawing.
>>
>>3024570
what this anon said. it's okay to let yourself feel jealous for those small bursts of envy-fueled practice, but in the end you need to focus on your own growth and why you want to make art. shit, just saying that is making me realize that I need to fucking follow the advice i'm giving.

in the end, your hard work is going to mean something, you'll have slogged through your brain trying to stop you, it'll suck, but it'll be worth it.
>>
>>3024568
Motivation is a myth. You just need a slight spark to get in the habit and that should be all that's needed.

Your ego is a fucking problem, though. You need to seriously reexamine your fucking attitude. Good artists should make you feel hopeful, that your path is achievable, that it's all going to be alright.

Instead you're getting envious like a bitch. Dwell on this statement a while.

>Hey anon how do you learn to draw?
>Oh lol all you gotta do is practice practice practice!

Tell me /ic, why are artists so retarded? You can't just tell a total noob to practice and expect them to do it properly. This tells nothing to someone who is seeking direction as to how to practice, or what it is that they should be practicing in the first place. It doesn't tell of any important habits to develop or concepts to understand. It's just lazy and does them a disservice, because it wastes their time and energy, and misrepresents the truth.

Why the fuck do artists perpetuate this shitty meme? Even my highschool art teacher taught this bullshit.

All I can read here is
> i don't want to practice

I "made it" (ie make a living by drawing) & I repeat the advice.

What a stupid thread.
>>
>>3023964
You've been giving a lot of people terrible advice then.

The point I was making is that if you tell a noob to practice, they'll just practice more of the same cringy shit they already practice. Noobs are asking for direction, and you aren't giving them it.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies, however, all forms of stylization is welcome here. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, you should be having fun! Fun I said!

So I recently got a couple offers to be part of two art shows in the coming months. I've never been part of an art show (not since middle school, boy that's depressing to think about) so I don't really know much about them.

Share stories, what to expect, what to know, and all that jazz since this isn't a topic I see get talked about here that much. Any tips for this would be great too. All i know is that it's free for me to be part of these shows, and they're not guarantees for finding work or getting work sold.

Also tips for displaying digital work (best place to go for printing? etc?) would be appreciated.

the only thing to watch out for is if the organizers are getting a cut of art of yours that sells.

or if they ask for money. there's vanity art shows, just like vanity publishing.

if you're happy that the shows are legit, depending on the scale and what not, you might want to see if you can get involved somehow. if you're working with the people then they'll think of your next time, so more shows, and you're getting involved in your local art scene (and it's a possible in-road to an art related career, if you're ngmi)
>>
>>3026971
Thanks anon. I know for a fact one of them doesn't get profits from my work and I retail all rights to my shit, etc. I don't know about the other one yet because I haven't looked into it yet.

I live in a semi-major city (Not like NYC big but still big name) with a big art district (a couple really) so getting my name out there would be hugely beneficial to getting a creative career out here.
>>
Digital work might do well depending on how big your city is. I don't like prints as much but they're affordable to everyone.

you will never know how the fest will go and you might lose money renting a booth rather than getting money.

Dad's a pop artist so he sells some bigger more expensive stuff at almost every festival in Utah. It's better to know what's worth what and costs are usually dependant on size, material, and time.

Spend 40+ hours on the same print and make 50 of them the value will depreciate, if there's an original it might stay NFS, or remain too expensive. At least from what I've seen.

But yeah, most festival artists sustain a basic income through teaching somehow and the success of the festival and the size of your degree will determine who will allow you to teach.

Stop it.
You aren't Nick.
Kill yourself.

Have you ever contacted an artist to ask him a question or for some advice?

I occasionally see people saying they hit up artists via facebook, and what not, and I'm just wondering if you fags have ever tried it, maybe gotten a good piece of advice, etc.

I've written several emails to artists. Both to famous ones and to ones who are top tier but less known. I've never gotten a response. That said I know other people who have written emails to famous artists and received nice personal responses and advice before.

I think as long as you make sure to deliver your question in a way that lets them know exactly what you're asking you'll be fine, and of course don't ask something that's stupidly obvious or would take a long time to explain

I once just straight up contacted an artist by searching for them on telegram to ask them how they pulled off an effect in their art and they were happy to share their knowledge.

Consider how much the artist is interested in recieving unsolicited questions. Some artists already sell tutoring sessions to people, asking them for free advice unless it's just one small thing can be very rude.

>show that you value their advice, the thing you're after should be something they're interested in/very good at
>show that you've already made the best attempt you can at whatever it is
>don't waste their time

Also it may be worth mentioning that you just won't be able to contact certain artists, when they're very famous they won't give out anything other than their business email and you shouldn't contact that, if you want advice from them you'll have to find a way to get to know them personally first, meet them at an event or something.

But always remember that artists are real people too and many find it very enjoyable to help others improve, as long as it doesn't take up their entire day unpaid of course.
>>
>>3024911
Pretty much sums it up, if you're genuinely interested in something and ask nicely, most artists will gladly answer you if they're not a dick.
