Probably going to get chewed out, but expecting to get chewed out.
I'd like to turn this into a more refined piece, but feel like there's all sorts of things wrong with it (And no, the demon dong is supposed to be there).
Haven't done anything like this in a long time so C&C is greatly appreciated (*C&C Hell March intensifies*)

Two simple things that I think could improve this a lot:
1. Redo the face to make it more expressive. It's very stiff right now (no pun intended).
2. Make the hair look less like a sheep that needs to be sheared.
Anyone not going to make it even through they are trying really hard.
Was looking through his work and it is really crap considering he had years of studying and now even quit his job for four months.
Like you would assume he would have given up about now.
I feel this proves that talent is stronger than motivation. You can have all the motivation int the world, but if you have no talent you will not make it.
Like he made his youtube channel 3 years ago and still not made it.

Volen is cool, i love the guy, and if you look at his early stuff versus his more newer work theres a huge difference.
Though he has stated that his progress was slowed down a bit because he focused on learning different software and techniques for a while instead of practicing drawing and painting.
The progress hes made thus far is completely normal for most people.
And theres no set time for when youre to make it, for some hard working and smart individuals it takes 3 years, for others it might be 5, and for some even 10.

Nope. The way you think about things will shape your personal taste. Taste is huge when it comes to your ability as an artist.
Unless you're telling me that everyone's brain is the same, and we all think the same way with the same level of focus/autism.
OP is right. Volen just doesn't have a good eye/taste, he's not going to make it (or if he does, it will take him many more years).
I'm trying to get the hang of an olive skin tone with my watercolors and it's getting to be a pain. Any of you anons have some advice for getting different skin tones with your watercolors?
Mix a little yellow, a little red, and some white. Play with this using various amounts of each.
Profit.

I want to build a PC specifically designed to handle digital art creation.
I've done my research and the most important parts for the job and they are the processor and RAM.
I want to work on large canvas sizes without lag, use textured/angled brushes without lag, possibly animate without lag.
I'm wondering if it's necessary to drop a bunch of money on an i7 and 32gigs of RAM, or if I can settle for less with the same results.
Anyone on here who built a PC specifically for art with any advice? Thanks. Pic unrelated.
>>3032891
16 instead of 32 is fine. though i went for 32. I7 is a meme, go Ayyyyyyyymd for that sweet multithreading, graphics card doesnt matter, get a 1050 or something cheap, motherboards are a meme unless you need to take an expensive one to have 20 usb keys,

I was just looking into the difference between Intel and AMD. Is there a benefit one way or the other in terms of making art?
64GB of RAM. I'm only partially joking.
There was a thread not so long ago about why we weren't like Conceptart.org, and someone mentioned challenges.
So I was thinking, we don't we do a little challenge where we all try our bests, post wips and then a week or two from now post the final result.
For this first time we do something simple: Design a character that could fit into League of legends.
Only restriction being that it should fit into the general feel of the game, other than that go ham and have fun, post wips and help each other out.
>>3032017
>Design a character that could fit into League of legends
So basically, this.
>>3032026
You forgot to add the face. Doesn't matter which one, they all look the same.
>>3032017
>here was a thread not so long ago about why we weren't like Conceptart.org
Challenges was never the highlight of CA, it was the people posting there who eventually became industry pros and the friendly competition. A meaningless challenge
1. Won't replicate this...
2. We'll start to see dozens of 'challenge' threads co-op'd as free requests threads.
Not saying you shouldn't do it but lets be real here.
What makes a character's design good or bad?
>>3029891
a good silhouette
Their design should fit their identity and tell you something about the character's personality/profession
Adding 50 fucking belts doesn't make for good character design though. Unless it's Jinx.
For stylized females:
>Good
>visible tits
>visible buttcheeks
>visible pussy
>Bad
>no visible tits
>no visible buttcheeks
>no visible pussy
If you think I'm being epic and don't believe me, go look at games with huge character rosters and see which characters are the most popular/successful. (Hint: it's the ones with nice tits, ass or pussy)
All we ever wanted was to draw cute girls doing cute things.
>setting the bar low so that's easily attainable
I suppose that's an interesting strategy.
ladies and gentleman, let us get some objective critique up in here!
image1: Latest work
image2: objectively Best work
image3: obviously unfinished sketch/wip
>(NOTE: concept art will not be unfairly judged as "unemotional" or etc, you need not state the purpose and intent of your work, and I will adjust my judging to fit your needs, i am well versed on artistic intention, can't say the same for whomever else judges)
each category in a CLuSTeR score system, or CLSTR
1 - complete failure to encompass this quality
2 - brief signs of potential
3 - obvious signs of intentional work, succeeds somewhat.
4 - Successfully transmutes said quality.
There are five categories, Character, Lapse, Super, Tear, Response (explained in next post)
the best score is 44444
the worst score is 11111.
>all replies must be numbers such as 44444 or 43233
>or an artist posting the three artworks
>do not respond to others critiques
>artists, do not respond to your critiques, simply take note of your score.
>>3035095
Character - (how much do you believe the person cares and has invested in their artwork?)
1) obviously doesn't care 2)could care more 3)talented hobbyist 4)future master
Lapse - (if you forsee the potential in this person, what is the first step they should take to achieve it?)
1)do a 180, abandon all ye have learned 2) take a hint 3) you are aware of your mistakes, just implement them 4) your self judgement is sharp
Super - (what is objectively good about the artworks?)
1) there isn't anything objectively good about this artists works
2) there are some areas that are objectively good.
3) most of it is good, but it's lacking that last bit.
4) objectively perfect, (in terms of skillfulness x representation)
Tear - (emotion, does the work make you feel ?)
1) no attempt was made to capture humanity
2) some attempt was made, but failed.
3) an attempt was made, but is sophomoric.
4) shows maturity in choice of subject matter and executes it tastefully.
Response (who is the artist influenced by? is it obvious?)
1) the artist clearly is an "originale" and does not care about the art scene in general/other artists and does not comment on it.
2) the artist cares about art history, but does not successfully respond to it.
3)the artist is responding somewhat and succeeds at some level.
4)the artist is well aware of art tropes, the do's and don'ts and doesn't fall into cliches.

And really, your best work is third one. You don't even understand at the basic level why, thinking that a turd in the middle is best because it is made with mud and looks "most realistic", like the idea a n00b would have about proper academic figure study.
You don't care about your art because you aren't analytical about it, you are obviously lazy and retarded but focus all the wrong ideas /ic/ feed you with about studying and improvement.
Go jump on a dick.

oddly enough, thank you

The central render is called Apple, by artist Cai Shuisong00
You can find more of their work here, and I've attached the original render.

The background is Remember Me concept art, a Capcom publisher game by Dontnod Entertainment. You can find more of the work here.

If that's all, cheers.

Apologies to my nephews.
Is tilt a valuable feature for digital painting? What about barrel rotation?
>>3033045
i find them both useful, could live without them though, the 2b pencil brush that i think came with ps (might have made it ages ago) really benefits from both
>>3033045
Barrel rotation enabled is awesome for tall bristle brushes. You can make brush marks that follow the form rather quickly. The art pen is great
What programs even use tilt? My suface pen has tilt but my older version of photoshop doesn't seem to work with tilt.
How do i draw observational sketches of people?
by drawing them
First you'll need to gather your materials.
You'll need something to draw with so get a pencil or pen.
And also something to draw on so get some paper or a sketchbook or some shit.
The trickiest part though is the people. You can find people in the wild around buildings and roads. There are also people inside buildings but people are very territorial and will get angry if you go into the wrong building without permission.
Now the observational sketching itself has two key components, observing and sketching.
Observing involves facing your eyes towards your subject (the person) and looking at them (make sure to have your eyes open when you do this)
Sketching involves making marks with your drawing implement to make a picture on the paper that looks like your subject.
To make marks, hold the pen(cil) in your hand with the pointy end towards the paper. Press the pointy end against the paper and move it along the paper to make a mark (a line in this case). The tricky part of this is using the right amount of pressure when applying your mark. If you press too lightly then you won't make a mark at all and if you press too strongly you'll just tear your fucking page in half or snap your pencil so be careful. There's a specific range of pressures you can use that will be able to make effective marks, if you press toward the lighter end of the range your mark will be lighter and thinner and if you press harder it will be darker and thicker. This is important to remember.
The trick to observational sketching is that you need to almost simultaneously observe and make marks on the page that resemble your observations.
A useful technique for this in the early stages of your sketch is drawing lines. You should draw lines where you see the edges of objects, creases and sharp changes in value (I'll explain value in a second).
cont.
>>3032815
A good technique for beginners is to observe the basic shape that the contour (edges) of the subject makes, and then drawing lines to make that shape on your page.
You should observe the angles of the edges and match those angles with your lines. Also you should try to match the proportion of the subject. Proportion is how the sizes of different things relate to each other.
So if you see something on the subject that is twice as big as another part of the subject, you should make sure your drawing depicts that part as being twice as big as the other part, same as the subject.
After you've got the basics down you could say that you've completed a "sketch", but if you want to take your sketch and turn it into a full drawing you can use the advanced art technique known as "rendering" (also known as shading to you fucking philistines)
When you render something, you add "value" to it and your sketch stops being completely worthless trash.
The value of a region is determined by how dark it appears, or more specifically how dense that area is with ink/lead/charcoal.
There are many different values from completely white (it's just the blank page) to completely dark (adding as much ink/lead/charcoal to an area as possible)
The goal of value is to make a part of your drawing appear to have the same brightness as that part in the subject.

IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.
RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead
#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
OLD THREAD: >>3029573
So, there is a lot of stuff on drawing and painting but I don't see much when it comes to colouring, even less considering the more experimental path I wish to take. Do you guys know some good books or material to point me? I tried some stuff by myself, my it always end up looking flat... I wil post some inspo so you know what I am talking about.
How do I stop jerking off while drawing porn?
chop dick off

Try nofap, you also get night vision and wings. Great deal.

If you simply can't control yourself while drawing porn, chances are that you are producing pure erotic gold. In this case masturbation is the last of your problems, for you've just found a goldmine in your head.
