The picture pretty much says it all, Also if you have pictures like the one above feel free to share.

I did NOT draw this art all I did was recolor it to make it more lively.

1.) Draw a shit ton.

You won't get good until you have drawn from 2,000 -10,000 hours. Hours very depending on your natural talents how efficiently you study.

2.) Study your fundamentals by doing deliberate practice. Basically, focus on one area at a time. If you are doing a compositional study of old masters work, forget the rendering and just do a bunch of quick compositional studies

3.) Apply your work to both finished and unfinished work. So, if you do hand studies do hands from imagination. But ultimately, if your plan is to be an illustrator you have to make sure you consistently make illustrations.

There that's it. That's the "secret" to getting good. Took me 2 years to figure that out. So much BS I had to weed out.

>Inb4 post work

I'm not good, so I'm not gonna post my work. But, I have improved tremendously from applying this stuff.

The secret is to show yourself you can get better at a subset of drawing in a tangible way. and then grow from there

I know you have to study anatomy to draw stylized figures and what not but do I have to paint realistically and learn values really well before I can do something like this? I feel like if you already have good drawing skills, the painting required for this can be pulled in a couple months, or am i wrong?

It's only as easy as you make it. Stupid question though and you should just try it for yourself to know.
>>
>>3130950
No you're not required to paint realistic to do something like that. In fact some of those values don't make perfect sense.

that coloring style is a lot of selective gradient on everything colored and sharp shadows/highlights. learn to draw, learn to control your pen well enough to make long nice strokes, and the drawing process should be easy.

I realized a couple days ago that I wasn't really studying. I would just do a various few poses and draw them/redraw based on references to learn. My point is, what exactly do people do to study say gesture, construction of figures in general?

Study it from reference. Draw it from memory. Create from imagination.
>>
>>3130946
yeah that's the thing, that's the cycle
Study it from reference. Draw it from memory. Create from imagination. derive physical principles lastly... not first because you can't hang on to them while drawing or referencing. you have very little cash memory to juggle all that while in Beta mode ...
one thing at a time to begin with
>>
I use line-of-action and other similiar sites. Minute per gesture or 5 mins per basic construction for an hour, then one hour from imagination.

Hi fellas
i have a question
how do i balance my last year of highschool with me learning more about drawing. I really want my anatomy really good and have a good grasp on foreshortening and perspective and whatnot. I do 2 art subjects but they dont cover on those topics, i also do media and english. Does anyone have any tips on this?

Draw from images accurately and precisely. Read some books on perspective, it's easy theory but long practical. That's it, it's as simple as that. Whether or not you put in more and how difficult you want to make it is up to you.
>>
>>3130896
thank you, i was more asking on how i can balance school and art but its good advice :3

Start slow, try to draw 15 minutes a day for a week then work up to 30 minutes the next week then an hour.

noah bradley says it takes practicing 1 hour per day for 3 weeks straight to guarantee a noticeable improvement in your art, regardless of skill level or talent. how true this is?

Not really. Its helpful to know, especially if you intend to color your comics, but if you just want to do black/white of cel-shaded comics by all means put off learning how to paint to focus on skills that will actually be useful to you.

Why do people treat modern/performance art like it doesn't take any skill?

If anything, it takes way more creativity than learning to draw boxes and cylinders.

Time is short, and a lot of us have lives to live, so how do you learn to draw anime style most efficiently in the least amount of time possible?
2 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Learn basic anatomy, quick gesture drawings and perspective. Practice drawing simple shapes in 3D space if you're totally new to drawing, then combine them to make mannequins. Then, you keep drawing anime qts from different angles and with foreshortening/pushed perspective and go back to the references folder (you should have one)/anatomy book every time something feels off (to get a better eye for observation you can start off by watching lots of anime/reading lots of manga and mentally note down how things are simplified). Rinse and repeat?
