Let's assume I focus on a simple and only one subject, be it perspective, drawing the eyes, rendering of cubes, etc.
Let's assume I grind it doing exercises from both imagination after a session of copying references.
Having said that, how much time will it takes before I can say I learned that skill.
Take into account I mean things that are technical and extremelly mechanical exercises like cube perspectives, or simply drawing the hand or rendering a sphere under diferent light conditions.
How long should I do it before saying I've learned and mastered that exercise?
A day, a week, a month?
Doing just that exercise non stop.
THERE IS NO ANSWER
ENOUGH WITH THE RETARDED THREADS
FOCUS ON DRAWING INSTEAD OF QUESTIONS
How long it takes is a case by case basis, but I guarantee that if you focus on only one thing for however long it takes to master, you'll end up hating all of the time you spend drawing.
You should mix up practicing technical skills like you mentioned with drawing things that you actually like to draw (probably animu shit),
while trying to apply your newer technical skills to the animu drawings that are actually fun to do.
If you like drawing, don't turn it into a total chore.

commit certain things to memory, that's all, what really matters is the repitition of drawing things over and over again.
Are top tier artists narcissistic? Do you have to be driven by a god complex to achieve greater things?
You have to believe in your work to come this far, but you also need the ability to self-reflect properly, something narcissists lack.
I would rather speak of taking pride in the craft itself. Great artist may come off as arrogant since their standards are set incredibly high, especially for themselves.
As far as successfulness goes: Be as bold as possible. Even if you don't believe in your work, sell it as the hottest shit.
>As far as successfulness goes: Be as bold as possible. Even if you don't believe in your work, sell it as the hottest shit.
Do you have to be like that?

Looks like LiLaiRa. Her stuff is super generic though, no idea why you posted this thread.
Zelkkova?
Just wondering.i have seen some pictures online that have this sort of flowy movement to them. It does seem like it was made in a program and i was hoping that someone here would know what i am talking about and tell me how i can do this myself.
Posting a pastel drawing i did a while back. Be gentle, i am an extremely vulnerable little flower.
I need the shleem!!
Just give me your philosophy on approaching light and shadow. Do it help to understand how light and shadow actually work? or is it all mechanical application?
>>3049969
read loomis, he explains it how it works.
It's related to perspective and the angle of the plane versus the direction of the light.
is pretty mechanical but most artists don't give a fuck (they're amateurs).
just read loomis.
there's also three gnomon workshop dvd on this topic.

Shadow is the absence of light. In it's true form, it is completely dark and any object within it cannot be seen (because there's no light to bounce off the object).
"But anon, why can I still actually see objects within shadow in reality?"
Because literally everything causes light rays to bounce and scatter everywhere. When light hits an object, the object's light plane acts as another light source, projecting its color properties within the environment. This light hits another object and another and so on until the photons of light scatter further from each other (light falloff). The sky is also a light source that fills in the upward facing planes in shadows with a nice blue tint. Any light that isn't the primary source is -never- as bright. The lightest part of a shadow should never be lighter than the darkest part of the light planes. Now there's a lot of grey area here, but a good rule of thumb for beginners is: lights cannot occupy the same space. Now, obviously they can and you can easily replicate it in reality... But that rule of thumb will always work no matter what. So for outside, sunlight for the light plane...skylight for top planes in shadow...and a color from the ground for the bottom shadow planes. Rimlight only appears in the shadows.
An object closest to the lightsource will project a larger shadow. Cast shadows are sharper the closer they are to their origin, otherwise they get softer the further away they are. Form shadows are soooooft shadows that run along the form.
You would know this if you picked up Scotts book.
My fan art of rose
What do you guys think? It may still be in WIP
but i'm too lazy to finished it. I should i keep going?
>>3049898
just scrap it. all you did was trace it, the little coloring you did has awful brushwork. plus you picked a facial expression that if you dont capture it perfectly, it'll come out all sorts of fucked up.
just scrap it, its zero effort trash that you got bored of
>>3049898
I'll merit you for posting something that's better than what i expect a thread like this to be dedicated to.
>>3049912
That's the point. Instead of spending hours of sketching, trying to get a perfect line art. I traced so i can have more time on coloring cuz i really need to work on my coloring
my other trace coloring art work related.
Looking for a painting that I think was from the enlightenment era or maybe high renaissance? I saw it years ago but can't find it. It depicted a subject who had to choose between a life of study, virtue, and knowledge vs a life of vice, alcohol, sex. On one side were scientists and philosophers the other side drunks and nude women. I've found some similar paintings, but they are not the one.
Any art history buffs know the painting?
>>3049121
I'm pretty sure the scientists were on the right, the lewd women on the left, and it was indoors
>>3049121
Gonna need a little more than that, allegory was an incredibly popular subject during those eras.
>>3049156
That's pretty much all I can remember unfortunately... On one side guys reading manuscripts, tinkering with instruments, thinking deeply, very nobel. On the other side dumb laughing, wine, nude women.
Wish I could remember more
I want to share a method that I think is useful for coming up with ideas if you're ever stuck.
I wouldn't claim that it's useful for all creative pursuits, but I do think it's generally good for establishing the basics of your concept image. It doesn't take long, and it can give you something really concrete to work with so you aren't having to generate something from the vague recesses of memory.
Basically, you're breaking down an image into a set of descriptive categories whose parts can be replaced with new ones that you come up with. The image explains the process in a little more detail, and (if anyone cares for it) I can post a tutorial video explaining the process in action and the kind of thinking that goes into it.
I don't know if this method is already obvious to people, but I found it really useful and would have loved knowing about it in the past, so I thought I'd post it.
Nice work anon, thanks for sharing

I think this might help me alot more than I would think. Ty anon
pretty good, thanks anon,

So...im planning to do 2 sticker packs. Each pack will have 6 stickers. I will upload them to RedBubble and one other store and see how it will go.
I just wanted to talk about selling stickers and may be hear some stories of anons that already did it.
Have any tips for sticker-selling anons?
PS:
My first pack is a random cartoony pack.
Second pack contains characters from one popular franchise.

How do you motivate yourself to draw every day?
By avoiding shit that is lower hanging fruit for enjoyment.
Why would anyone draw when they can be spoon fed satisfaction with tv, mmorpgs etc.
Limit or cut out the unproductive shit you are addicted to and you'll find it a lot more enjoyable
>>3044817
You do it for her. She's waiting for you, go draw her.
Have stuffs you wants to draw.
Seriously, I have hundreds to not say thousands of shit I wants to draw, I'll never run out and I sure don't get bored. And since I wants them to be as good as possible I study and improve on the way to have what I wants.
