Any wacom fags on here?
I used to draw a lot with a Wacom bamboo but haven't had much of a chance in the last few years due to being a full time wageslave.
I want to get a cintiq with my tax return but have never used one before, I just hope it'll be a fun way into getting me back into drawing and pursuing a creative hobby again.
Also how are the Microsoft surfaces? Any good compared to Wacom tablets?
>>3049543
For the price they go for they should be perfect, but they arent. Just go intuos pro.
>>3049543
I have that exact tablet, it's pretty good. Intuos is fine but I still prefer drawing on an cintiq. You look Canadian or something OP with that price.
>>3049569
How are the touch screen shortcuts and the cable ports? The last Wacom products I've bought have extremely flimsy cables or ports that ended up dying a year after the purchase. I'm interested in the Cintiqs, but if they have the same issues, I don't want to end up with a thousand dollar slab.
>Tfw cant decide if I want to draw for the rest of my life
tell me /ic/, what are the perks?
You can show people your creativity and imagination at all times because you learned how to showcase it through a drawing. Biggest perk of them all probably.
You can make a lot of money if you turn out to be really good and be good at business.
Drawing for the rest of your life instead of working some inane 9-5 job? How cool is that? People would fall head over heels for that.
Tell me what you want to draw though OP, what are your motives? To just draw for the rest of your life is something anyone can do, but to draw something specific for money isn't.
>>3049482
you cant test how much time you can survive without starving to death while you grind 13 hours a day with no jobs to pay your bills and hoping to one day be a decent concept artist

Is reality, 1, 2, or 3 point perspective?
d. none of the above
All of the above.

So I just got my Wacom Intuos Art in the mail and tried it out. How long does it take to adjust to the new feel? I'm having trouble lining up the same strokes and other shit like that.
Also, how do you feel about learning fundamentals on tablet?
>>3042192
Learn them on paper, because there won't be any Ctrl+z to save you...
>>3042192
The smaller your brush is, the more difficult it becomes to draw. You'll never get used to it.
For painting is fine, but for drawing you'll have to look for a large tablet or a cintiq.
>>3042192
make sure it is mapped properly to your monitor. Try tracing a circular object on your tablet and see if it produces a circle on your screen.

I made this video with After Effects for my friend, who is a great DJ. What do you think about it? Hope for some constructive criticism :)

On a second note, is anyone else scared that people will post their embarrassing progress online?
I hope it's fake too but then a lot of fellow artists give the shit advice of just keep practicing instead of saying look up the fundamentals
>>3050724
looking up the fundamentals is also useless advice
I want to break apart a load of pallets and put the on the chimney wall and either side of them.
infront of that I'm going to create a bar.
I'm going to need to paint the pallets as they are blue.I want to do them in a nice dark wooden effect.
What I need help with is how do I workout how to colour and shade each one so it doesn't just look all the same or look like one big mess.
I'm also thinking of stencilling on the tree of life in the middle or maybe the Hamas sign.
>>3048840
if it's a pallet made of wood then the thing to do would be to sand off the paint and then use a wood stain to make them whatever woody color you want, then you can varnish them if you feel like it
what's the secret to drawing cute anime girls?
>>3048637
50% drawing skills and 50% having good taste and knowing what's cute
>>3048647
how do you get good taste and know what is cute?
>>3048650
By becoming a homosexual.
How should I be holding my pencil and how should my arm/hand be functioning to draw properly? Is it worth spending a short time daily grinding lines to build muscle memory? Can't seem to find anything good on the basic of basics.
There isn't a "right" way to hold a pencil other than what feels most comfortable. When drawing you do however want to use as most of your arm as possible so that your lines are fluid and loose. If you hold the pencil very close to the tip and draw with your fingers or with your wrist you end up with a lot of chicken scratch.
>>3050518
>How should I be holding my pencil
As long as you're comfortable and don't cause any long lasting damage, you're fine.
Also, just do the trick where you put your finger down and spin the paper(human compass technique), it's more accurate than actually trying to draw the circle.
>>3050518
i think practicing lines is worth it, i did it a lot when i was starting out and i think it helped. though if i were to do it again i would probably copy line drawings rather than just drawing lines.
basically the way to move your arm is that you priorities your shoulder, then your wrist (elbow takes care of itself). the shoulder because it can move on more axes, and it moves more smoothly and over greater distances, but your wrist does fine adjustments, and with certain things just the wrist by itself is useful, one of those things is writing which is why most people will tell someone new to 'draw from their shoulder,' they're not saying you're not allowed to move your wrist or anything like that, just that drawing isn't primarily a wrist thing like writing.
hold your pencil however you like, but again remember you're not writing so you don't want to only use the tip, you want to be able to make all sorts of marks.
another good tip is to draw on a slanted surface, it's much more comfortable, doesn't need to be much, even 30 degrees is better than 0.
How do you combine your artistic ambitions with a (non-art)-related full-time job?
>>3050272
I guess you draw on your free time then
>>3050274
Not him but usually I'm too exhausted to do anything once I get home. When I get two days off in a row I usually do things which I don't have enough time for, such as grocery shopping and relaxing.
>>3050278
are you so physically tired you cannot lift up a pencil? do you relax by playing video games, masturbating to anime, playing overwatch or whatever the fuck, or shitposting on 4chan which you are doing right now?
how serious are you about drawing, honestly. i'm not judging you, it's fine if you want to do other things, but think hard on this.
Is photobashing degenerate?

They say practice makes perfect but how come those people at art center get extremely good in 4 years? What are the excercises they do?
Does ic have a set of excercises to achieve a certain level? I know th answer is "just draw" but what do I draw? How?
Should I just fabricate my own excercises and hope I will get better just like that?
They're forced to do work that a normal person wouldn't do because it's boring and doesn't lead to good shit. Like the perspective classes or whatever have to be precise and they only get like a day to ready up a design. Shit has to be done in chalk too so you can't even fuck up.

You can always try yourself, but you'll need some guidance by a pro at some point.
All the Greats have been students.
IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
