A few years ago I saw a black and white movie about a painter. The hero of the movie is sent by the painter's wife to tell him she refuses to divorce and if possible to take him back to home. He finds the painter living in a small and cold appartment belonging to some prostitute. When the hero asks why he would rather live like this than living a responsible and ordained life, he answers

You could ponder the question for a year, but some people don't need a reason.

The two main reasons people draw:
1: To sooth their own anxiety
2: To limit their arousal

If you can find an intermediate point between them, you can be more conscious about what you're doing.

Looks very decent for a first try.
Practice the details in the ear, and make it a bit smaller. I realize the ears are gauged out but even then the ear is too big.
You should also start focusing on shading/values now since you have some decent grasp of the shapes.

Every Asian female artist I personally know tends to draw themselves as more white-looking than they actually are whether they have an anime style or a more Disney cartoon style. Really makes you think.

Is there any way to tell what country/city this photo was taken in? That would really narrow it down.

As far as the statue, if we assume it's Mary, them it's probably a Catholic church or school, but it's not too clear to me if that's a baby she's holding or not..
