Has anyone here had experience doing art jobs through upwork??
A client has asked an artist to do the cover art for his game, so I sent my proposal asking to be paid for $40 an hour.
The client responded to me saying he likes me work. He asked if I was open to starting with a few sketches, how much I would charge and how long it would take.
Usually rough concept sketches, depending how elaborate they are, dont take me more than an hour. Should I still be charging for rough sketches/thumbnails, and if so, still $40 an hour?
I'm just not sure how the system works with Upwork. I did one gig but I pretty much just worked sketch to finish.
Thoughts? Ideas? This client would have to grant the project to me before I would start tracking my time to do any work for it, right? Or would he have to change it to a milestone payment on his end?

USD $40 per hour?! you must be too good for /ic/, i got luck if i'm offered $20 per day
reminder that upwork takes like 20% of your earnings
>>3055333
I mean, that's what was said in my proposal, so the client should see it.
Hence why I'm confused as to why he would ask how much I would charge for sketches.
>>3055333
Also I'm well aware upwork takes 20%. That's why I charge $40 per hour. It's still bullshit, but prospective clients seem to be hiring through there alot.
I'm wanting a brush organizer with categories since photoshop fucking sucks with that. Been using corel painter and I'm trying to be able to use photoshop too but this is killing me.
Anybody have a crack for the brush gordon plugin for photoshop or are there any alternatives?
https://anastasiy.com/magicsquire
MagicSquire seems to be better and also support every single Photoshop version above CS5 unlike other brush managers
Sadly it costs a lot ($19) and no one pirated it yet somehow
God damn, my wrists should be hurting for practicing, not for fapping too much. How do porn artists can resist to fucking fap to references? Do they take cold showers or something?
>>3057335
You fap before work you dummy
>>3057336
^that
How can you be so weak to fap to generic women. Hell, even worse, feel an urge to fap to generic women.
How do you get seen in the art industry? How do you get a job in it?
Networking, good/decent portfolio, not being a complete autist around other people.
I don't know. But I'll tell you how I got in.
Know lot of other artists and hang out with artists. Then, when a job pops up, you hear it on the grapevine. That's how I've gotten most of my jobs.
Lacking that, a good portfolio and craigslist will do you better than you might expect.
Just draw furry and 2d anime girls and you will make a lot of money
Holy shit..This forum sucks. It's flooded with anime, porn, and furry shit.
This thread is for monsters and crazy off concepts.
cna someboy critique my draiwing of pete rose please
It's pretty Schotty ;)
Will your career as an artist be affected if Net neutrality is abolished?
No, I'm not a degenerate burger
>>3057028
Is that the linux penguin?
>>3057028
i've had the same macbook for 6 years, i visit like 3 websites, what is net neutrality. Seems like a thing only hipsters care about.
Anyone have that painting of a dog (golden retriever) standing at a dark riverbank? Also, general horror art thread since I don't see one in the catalog
>>3056748
here buddy
That's not a golden retriever.
>>3057349
i got ya bud
F YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
OLD THREAD: >>3053642
Anyone here familiar with Zdizislaw Beksinski?
>>3054220
No, never heard of him.

lurk moat
Is it... an anus?
If you wanna get better at digital painting, is learning about values the most important thing?
>>3053634
Pretty much. Wether you paint digitally or traditionally, you won't go far without understanding values.
I'd say: values -> color -> composition
Of course you also need drawing skills. A painting is just as good as its underlying structure.
>>3053634
yeh. also excluding colours allows you to learn a new tool easier because you have less to focus on
Is composition basically just intuitive? You see all this golden mean shit and rule of thirds bs that has so many exceptions that its not even a rule, and then they arbitrarily paste the template on top of pictures where it barely works. Is composition really just acquired taste?
RIP Tumblr
Is this legit?

/ic/ is to discuss user-created artwork.
So which alternatives are there?
So you are telling me that if I go through all books in the sticky, I am going to be an intermediate artist? You are shilling the sticky so much that I have to ask
No, books don't work like that, it's if you read the sticky, you'll be better off than someone who blindlessly goes through tutorials. Whether or not you make it after that is up to you.
>>3058339
I mean working through those books more than just reading them.
>>3058337
You don't need to read all books, you just need one or two depending on what you want to do. There are multiple ways of making art depending on your field. Being a concept artist takes different skills than being a realist painter or a comic book artist. You don't get "good at drawing" like it's a single discipline.
Also even if you eventually plateau and you don't peak high enough to be a pro, you CAN without a doubt become an intermediate artist with just practice.
You guys good with pixel art? I was doing a texture study and wasn't sure about how the linework was turning out on this planked sphere.
>>3057790
There's already a pixel art themed thread. Please post there.
>>3057790
that isn't how you shade a sphere, my dude
>>3057813
Apologies, I hadn't seen it. (First time on this board)
I'm thinking about trying to make an animated web series. should I go for quality, quantity, or somewhere in between?
I won't be going for a patreon b/c I don't like the idea of people paying for a month where I don't make something
>>3056409
You're never gonna do this, and you're not gonna make it. Don't make your own threads
just do it, the more time you spend fucking around asking others how you should do it, the less time youre spending pursuing your goal
>>3056539
Basically this 110% this
Also, here's a tip from someone that started his own animated web series: keep it simple and don't be afraid to experiment, check out this guy:

Something along those lines
