Can anyone recommend a good SAI brush setting for practicing basic black-and-white shading fundamentals?
>>3062783
sai is a meme that needs to die, anon
>>3062783
There's not just one brush. I block the basic colours with a default opaque brush and start blending with pic related
That said, I think you sould take the time to search various settings and experiment on what works for you.

Thanks a ton. This is pretty spot-on to what I was trying to figure out how to make.
I just got a tablet and SAI, and I'm trying to make a line over my hand drawn drawings, and I can't get the lines straight.... Any tips???
>>3060355
1. Constant, deliberate training. Do it again and again. There are no shortcuts.
2. Turn the autoSmooth off. It jist irons out all personality off your lines. You may use it later, when you understand what EXACTLY it does, but please not as a beginner.
3. If your tablet is horizontal, hold the pen in the "chinese calligraphy brush" position, not like a writing pen.
You may want the tablet at an angle, get a book-stand or glue it to a screen-mount (google for Ergotron).
Good luck

Do I outline with one fast stroke or one slow stroke? I'm guessing the lines will be more consistent once I get used to the tablet.
Alright /ic/ check in thread.
How old are you, how long have you been drawing for, what age did you start and what's your art like currently?
>pic unrelated
>Finishing up final year
>been drawing for less than one year
>haven't really done any serious study
>stressed myself out over making it to the point of giving myself depression
There's gotta be something wrong with me.
>pic related, 100% referenced off an image, drew for a friend
19, started taking an interest in drawing 3 years ago but started pursuing it as a possible career 2 years ago

Did you not see the beginner thread? >>3063060

postem
Did this ages ago, been meaning to paint another
>>3048917
are you dying?
all of the sites are down it seems...
>>3064287
Happens every so often, it'll come back sooner or later.
does anyone know of any resources/books on drawing isometric landscapes and characters? (or preferably 3/4s view) I've been running into a problem where my characters animations dont seem to read very well. (not just the silhouettes but even when fully colored)
>>3063215
use something like that
>>3063215
actual iso or faux iso like in the pixel art you posted (and mangled by saving as jpg)? should be plenty of tutorials for the latter
>>3063229
actual isometric i thought with video games there would be a ton of books on this but i have found nothing good, im mostly looking for help on characters, though my landscapes could be improved too
how do you draw appealing faces?
step one delete all animu
Look in the mirror. Wait, never mind you said 'appealing' faces.
>>3059284
SICK burn bro, savagistic!
>I spent a lot of time drawing to do comics
>I find out that story is the kinda more important than the drawings
>Im shit at stories
>I want to die
Then don't put words in your comics and make it pre-language fucking cavemen
dummy smfh
>>3059010
Well made comics with no dialog require even greater story telling skills. The story isn't the written words you see on the page but what happens within the panels.

Pick a weird mental/physical disorder than make a comic about it.
Every time I visit museums with painters friends of mine (I'm a pianist, I've got no training in visual arts) I always end up overestimating the skill required to produce the pieces I see. What seems easy to do takes decades of practice, what seems really hard to replicate is more often than not some sort of fancy trick.
So here's my question: when compared to other great painters, how good is Dalì, actually?
Whenever I look at his paintings I immediatly get the impression that he was a virtuoso, but maybe I'm just being tricked by the originality of his subjects. Was he THAT better when comoared to the average beaux arts student/professor?
Of course I'm referring to craft only here.
Dali was not an extraordinary painter in the classical realist sense, although he became quite skillful towards the 50's and I consider the painting you posted to be a masterpiece. 20 years prior he was nonetheless bold with a brush, had a great sense of color and most importantly his subject matter more than made up for whatever he lacked in technical proficiency. The persistence of memory is one of the most easily recognized pieces of all time, that's gotta count for something.
Arts students may be very technically capable but still lack vision. One look at Artstation today proves that in excess.
>>3063835
uhh just map your experience with music to visual arts, like fuck.
>>3063856
>Arts students may be very technically capable but still lack vision
I'm very aware of it, it was just curiosity.
>>3063879
Not that easy when you don't know what a brush can actually do, and what degree of control painters have over their strokes.
Do you really think that you can analyze counterpoint properly after having studied some colour theory? As far as you know Bach is as good at counterpoint as everyone else, the motives of his excellence are hidden from whoever won't study his scores extensively. O feel the same way when I look at paintings.
>live in a third world shithole
>be poor as fuck
>drawing is the only thing I can learn without going to a school
I hate it but it's the only way to make money in the future. Anyone else?
>>3063625
code for commission you dolt, you speak english enough for it
also thanks for the references
>>3063625
How uneducated are you to think drawing is the only thing you can learn without going to school
You have the whole fucking internet at your hands.
>>3063627
>also thanks for the references
Yeah, I've figured as much that you may like that picture.
Fucking hell I can't seem to get past 2D and when I try to add 3D elements like shading either I add to much shadding on a basic drawing or add too little shading and when I try drawings with depth all the body parts seem off even when there supposed to look like that
>>3063536
draw from life
>>3063536
How much life drawing do you do?
If the answer's "none", then go do some.
I'm being asked to shop these dicks on a person (hiding their face) and I've never had to photoshop this sort of thing.
i could use some critique on improving these, i tried what i could but they still look like they're shopped on (I'm figuring nothing will get rid of that entirely)
i added a more grainy filter based on the persons skin, its less blended in terms of color but it doesn't pop as much
kindly fuck off
