I don't know what to do anymore

Currently going to school of graphic design just to get some understanding of how to utilize the tools at hand and how to sell myself as an artist or such.
The best part is that we get to draw a lot and when we have our own projects, we can really get wild with ideas and do stuff we really want and in the end we present them to each other or someone like musicians and galleries.
I aspire to be a freelancer of sorts, make my own shit, possibly draw requests and maybe have people working with me, I want to draw stuff like comics and singular images.

Now, what is my problem? On my free time, I am incapable as fuck. I have the will to do shit in my head and then don't. Every night before falling asleep I ponder what I want to do, I tell myself that tomorrow I'll fucking do it, incredible ideas pop up in my head and they evolve as time goes by, then I eventually fall asleep and what happens in the morning? I feel like killing myself, I am dead tired, I've lost every single bit of ambition and idea I might've had the other day and I just drag myself into school. I draw the whole day nonstop and get things done with like 50% efficiency.
Then I get home at like 3:00 PM, I throw my bag to the floor and sit down on the computer. Then I start playing games or lurking chans or watching youtube videos until it's like 1:00-3:00 AM, I go to bed and once again think to myself, why the fuck didn't I get anything done today, then once again repeat the whole thought process of making things happen tomorrow, get tons of new ideas of what I want to do and eventually fall asleep. The cycle continues.
Weekends especially make me mad. I have plenty of time to do shit but I never do it. I play whole weekend, masturbate plenty, just eat, shit and sleep.

How the fuck can I get out of this lifestyle? There's literally nothing I can think of that could help.

I've been thinking of trying something like prescription medicine, drugs or alcohol to possibly boost my motivation of doing shit.
Not sure how they would work but I want to believe there is some magic pill that somehow makes me only focus on my dreams and aspirations.

And know this, I've never drank alcohol, not even tasted it, never tried cigarettes, never tried any drugs, nothing. I am as good of a kid as anyone could hope for and hopefully people think of me as a good person. But I just can't beat myself and my lazyness.
What can I possibly do? I want to become a good artist and possibly in the future teach my kid(s) the wonders of drawing as well, but right now, there's nothing motivating me, only the dream to get good, only my own ass to wipe, nothing to fight for.

Also, don't get me wrong. I am not depressed, yes some mornings you feel like killing yourself, but that applies to everybody. If you sleep for a short time, you'll be grumpy in the morning.
I am fairly content with my life and I like videogames with friends and enjoy watching youtube videos or lurking chans. The problem is that those don't profit me in any ways, they don't make my life go forward, they bind me and it's nigh impossible to move on from it.

Anyone else have this same exact problem? Have you overcome it and how?

Everybody is welcome to share their experiences, maybe I'll learn something from them. But please, do help.

Completely get rid of your computer. It consumes a significant amount of lifetime and destroy your sleep cycles. If you don't do it now then you'll never do it. It will only get harder and loop until you die.

Btw stop fapping.

Yes I do, if you go to cgpeers and look for the head perspective tutorial by Yu Cheng Hong it comes with some brushes that might help you.

Not sure whether to post this here, or in or /p/, so I'm posting in both. All I am asking is, what is this filter, and how do I apply it to a photo?

i've been reading up on art history and right before the internet became mainstream, the art world really didn't give a fuck about technique, sklll and aesthetic.

they valued idea more. aka conceptualism

that left a hole for skill in visual arts to come marching back in.

that's why a lot of people on this board focus on skill so they can draw better.

i want to know if you believe this too and/or what do you think the future of art will look like?

also, you're art is shitty and you won't get better even if you practice 500 years, but there is more to art the skill alone so it kind of doesn't matter.

Fine art =/= illustration

Illustrators placed a tremendous amount of importance to technique the whole last century.

Practice drawing cross contour lines around basic shapes (spheres, cylinders, etc).

You can even take a photo of something and draw cross contour lines around it. That's the sort of stuff I did that helped me feel forms.

Construct your figures with boxes. They most clearly their relations in space. Do lot's of close ups with high distortion and extreme angles with overlapping forms to avoid drawing box symbols and actually force yourself to think about it 3 dimensionally.
You're gonna have to invest a bit of time into finding good reference first though, since most of the extreme angle closeups is porn and most porn photography has intentional lens distortion.

I've purchased Clip studio paint for 20 euro, but I hate the brushes it comes with, can anyone recommend me a good brush pack?
Both for painting and drawing.

How long does it take you to digest a lecture to 80% or more of understanding? For me I have to take at least 2 to 3 days rewatching many times to take notes.

A few weeks.

Hi /ic/, how are you doing? I've been lurking a while and decided to bring up a topic that I had in the back of my mind for a while.

First off, you need to know that i've been drawing for a while (2 year-ish) and only recently started to make a living out of illustration and actually studying art/practicing it - that said, I know what subjects and more or less the order I must learn them.

I was searching for some resources on the net and ended up finding this sycra video where he talks about his improvement, which made me search after many other artist improvement stories. While flipping through the old images of some artists I got this sense that at some point their end results are weird and then something, a little change(my guess is mindset and approach), happens and suddenly their art feels like it connects the basics of drawing/colour/anatomy/whatever generating an overall better image.

Now, I know that are as many types of people and consequently as many ways of learning art as stars in the sky, and that the results of one’s practice are based on infinite variables, but what if there are some turning points in common between the experiences?

So yeah, tell me you guys think of it and if possible post here some other references of artists improvement to see if we can see some patterns, bonus points for an interview/blog post or something.

Thanks.

>2 year-ish
Every single fucking time.
>>
>>3131474
I don't mean to offend, but 2 years-ish of drawing isn't long at all and you probably haven't even gone through your "breakthrough", but you won't realize this until you actually go through it.

I think people start to make it when they finally grasp the concept of form or find their style (not in the muh style way). But even decent artists are constantly changing up their aesthetic.

This interview of Steve Hutson was very eye-opening.

>>
>>3131492
Thanks for the reply, I'll pay more attention to this breakthrough thing

You may take it as bullshit, but i've always been invovled with art since a child, specially drawing and writing, the reason why I said 2 year ish is because that's more or less the time that I stopped seeing drawing as a secondary activity, I guess

Anyway, thanks for the understanding :^]

Possible stupid question here, but shouldn't I be able to get a smoother gradation of value via pressure sensitivity? My device supposedly has 1024 levels, but examples like pic related make it seem more like 5. Is there some setting I'm supposed to fine tune for a given program?
9 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Yeah. I get smooth gradations even with my low quality tablet. It might have something to do with your driver or photoshop. Do you get the same problem when the pressure is set to brush size? Have you tried using another program to see if the problem persists?

i'm not sure where the setting is for brush size pressure.

I just tried a test in Clip Studio and got these results. Seems smoother, although with a new problem, which is that I dont get full darkness even though I'm painting with black. And that soft strike on the right for some reason can't achieve really light values

What can I use to make this kind of smooth animation? I see there is live2d and emote but they are focused on faces, what if for example I want to make smooth animated wings? Is there another tool like these, that uses a "mesh" you can deform and make the images overlap smoothly into different frames?

Because art is one of the hardests things out there. And most "normal" people simply don't care. You dedicate yourself to something so specific, you suffer throught the process of learning and even if you "make it" you may never receive the proper recognition.
