>i just found out 140 000 people died instantly because of pic related
why the FUCK isn't this talked about more....
Pic related killed at least 300,000.
Are you gonna cry about them too, you fag?
isn't the reason Tokyo is as big as it is now, and advanced because it was razed in WW2, basically having a clean slate.
same happen with Rotterdam which is the only city in Netherland with a skyline.
i dunno for some reason I thought they were warned to evacuate or something. they do kind of rush by it in high school when your supposed to learn about this stuff. I never bothered to really look into it.
Well, the US did demand a Japanese surrender beforehand, under vague threat of "the inevitable and complete destruction of the Japanese armed forces and just as inevitably the utter devastation of the Japanese homeland"
>tfw an asian nation state will never be able to defeat colonial powers again because the US completely feminized east asia :(
China kicked America out of (almost all of) China.
China kicked America out of half of Korea.
Vietnam kicked France out of half of Vietnam and all of Laos and Cambodia.
Vietnam kicked America out of the other half of Vietnam and all of Laos and Cambodia.
Vietnam kicked America out of Cambodia (again) and China out of Vietnam.

[25 year rule]
Jesus fuck you're a dumb cunt.
Did what had to be done.
Otherwise it was send our boys into the retarded meat grinder or let the Soviets do it and keep their conquered territory shitty and communist all the way into 2016 and beyond, just like North Korea.
>i just found out 140 000 people died instantly because of a half-assed Twisted Metal game
>as percent of population
misleading shit, raw numbers please
Them japs dindu nuffin wrong to deserve them nukes
Japan was forced to surrender unconditionally when the Soviets broke the non-aggression pact and attacked Japanese forces in Manchuria, which made it clear that Japan had no hope of defending the home islands. Just because that coincided with the timing of the second nuke doesn't mean the nukes caused the surrender.
And if the goal was really to prevent deaths, the Allies could have just accepted Japan's conditional surrender before the nukes anyway.
The idea that the war would have continued and there would have been an invasion without the nukes is complete bullshit.
Don't like to do this moralist crap, but the japs pretty much deserve it for the Nanking Massacre
No, the real argument is that the Japanese lacked the protection of Geneva, and as an island effectively under siege, siege law applied to all aerial bombardments of "civilians" who of course, as besieged civilians, were in fact combatants.
What is it about WWII that draws out historically illiterate retards? With so much written about the war in so many languages you'd think people like OP could read something other than wikipedia.
Imagine a split Japan.
From Hokkaido all the way down to Tokyo becomes a communist nation under Soviet influence, everything down from Tokyo is under American influence. Tokyo itself is like Berlin, split down the middle.
It'd be great to see what would happen. Would it become another North Korea or another GDR?
Youre joking me right
We probably spent a week on the Atomic bombs between the lesson and the debates about whether we should have dropped them
>American public school hurr durr
When will this meme die
The hell are you talking about? Dropping the atomic bomb has been discussed to death by bleeding hearts and apologists alike. It's practically the national sport of Japan. In terms of horrible atrocities in that war, I doubt it even makes the top 10.
>Why is pic related not talked about more
300,000 people died as a result of the fire bombing of tokyo, what difference does it make that death was delivered with a single bomb over dropping tons of bombs.
I'll give you the answer....none.
