Small invasion forces can't change demographics of millions unless they go full mongol and te medieval arabs didn't go full mongol.

Most Levantines are still white today, the Muslim conquests didn't get rid of the original population and replace them with a brown horde.
Obviously they're not blond blue eyed Germanic looking white people but there isn't much difference between the average Syrian and Italian today, just as there wasn't much difference historically.

Basically the Levant was more "white" because Greeks had "whited" the population for centuries prior. Arabs moving up from the peninsula then "browned" it. It makes sense that current "white" Arabs are Christian because they have a stronger Greek ancestry and that "dark" Arabs are Muslim because they have a stronger peninsula Arab ancestry.

Iit's saying the modern Levantine Christian populations stopped mixing with sub-Saharan populations around 2000 years ago, while Muslim Levantines stopped 600 years ago. The Arab conquests only isolated the Levantines who didn't convert to Islam from other Middle Eastern populations who did.

All divergences seem to be ancient, or else timed with different events and not the 7th century AD.

The journal link earlier in this thread talks about this, but it's more accurate to say that Levantines are more closely related to Europeans than they are other Middle Easterners, rather than saying they're more European than Semitic. It's not as if the old Levantines were European settlers or anything, just that the Levantines stopped mixing with sub-Saharan peoples a few thousand years before they stopped migrating into Europe. Thus the Europeans and Levantines had a more recent common ancestor population than Levantines and other Middle Easterners.
