Why do so many people hate Wilson so much? He was obviously way too idealistic when it comes to his views towards Europe, but I've seen him listed as the worst president ever and I can't understand why.
>Clueless burger fuck who helped destroy Germany and Austria-Hungary.
>WW: Hey guys, we must have a peace where nobody is disadvantage-
>France: FUCK OF AMERIGAN, YOU WOULDNT UNDERSTAND, WE WANT GERMANY SO RUINED IT WILL NEVER BE A THREAT EVER AGAIN
>German butthurt leads to Nazis
Good Job Europe
some of the recent hate on him is because he was an unrepentant racist to the extent that it negatively affected some major decisions, like him ignoring Ho Chi Minh's petition for Vietnamese self determination.
Well he was born in Virginia in 1865 and couldn't overcome his upbringing. In contrast, consider Theodore Roosevelt, first President to invite a back man to the White House. There's more to be said about Wilson, like he was a prick, but that'll do for now.
Versailles wasn't anymore unfair than the treaty the Germans imposed on the French in 1871. The French were obviously pushing the hardest for reparations since their most industrialized region had been occupied and destroyed during WWI.
Made senseless plans for redrawing Europes borders after WW1 without consulting the British or French or even understanding what kind of affect on Europe his proposals would have.
Insisted on the establishment of the League of Nations but then refused to make the US a part of it.
The white man's burden in the British Empire as an excuse for imperialism and in America it was a combination of not having a unified ethnic heritage and thus using whiteness as synonymous to American and trying to justify the oppression of it's sizable minorities.
There are multiple reasons for everyone on the political spectrum to hate the guy:
>curtailed civil liberties and freedom during WWI (The Espionage Act is still on the books)
>cracked down on commies, socialists, and the IWW and helped instigate the first Red Scare (and the race riots of the 1919 Red Summer)
>was a racist
>enacted the Federal Reserve and passed the amendment that established the income tax
>nationalized railroads and other major industries during WWI, massively expanded the power of the federal government
>fundamentally transformed American foreign policy from one that was isolationist and wary of foreign entanglements into one that was interventionist and willing to enter foreign conflicts; established the rhetoric of the need to "spread democracy" and claimed the US has a "moral obligation" to intervene around the world
>favored globalism and reduction of sovereignty
There's lots for people to hate, OP.
as a member of his family, i hate him for his economic policies. the federal reserve bank and demanding all the countries gold, then switching from a gold standard to a credit standard.
