How would society today be different (more or less advanced/progressed) if the Middle Ages just... never happened? Nearly a thousand years of history just gone.

We'd be nearly a thousand years set back?

I'm saying it would still be 2016 though.

So, i'm back to getting invaded by every fucking nomadic tribe that wants to pillage Europe and living either as a villager in a commune or as a semi-nomadic shepard?
Is the Eastern Roman Empire still crumbling?
Are the magyars still expanding towards the center of Europe?

Well then the Middle Ages would have happened.
Nothing would change.
The intellectual center of the Roman Empire was in the East. The greatest Roman Philosopher was Epictetus. He was born in Turkey and lived in Greece.
The Chinese were as advanced as the Romans, if not more so. And they do not have flying cars.
Guys what if like the past never happened
