Did the cultures of the mediterranean consider themselves to be part of a culture region in contrast to northern europe, black africa, and west asia?
>>
>>561572
They considered each other to be civilized, while other cultures were considered uncivilized. In no way though did they see each other as similar culturally. Though arguably that did occur briefly during Roman times.

I don't understand.

I think you're asking if the people of Italy thought they belonged to the same culture group as say Egypt or Israel?

In short, no.

Italy wasn't even unified.

The "cultural divide" would be more closet to pic related

All those on your map were essentially Hellenised and part of the same civilisation. They simply considered themselves civilised as opposed to barbarians.

Here is what's called a T and O Map. This map was extremely common in medieval Europe as a representation of the world

Europe is in the bottom left corner and is separated from Africa by the Mediterranean. Asia is exasperated from Europe and Africa by the Nile and the Arms of George (Strait of Constantinople)

so no, at the very least, the world was divided into 3 sub sections, each seperated

Ah okay, then it gets tricky. Partly because, especially back then, ancient people loved to claim divine ancestry. So, even if say the Romans conquered Egypt, then the Romans would claim that they are the descendants of the Egyptian Pharaohs (gods). Even the British kings would try to claim the Greek Trojans as divine ancestors, or even one of the twelve tribes of Israel

That is especially common in the Greeks, who would sometimes claim divine ancestry from Egypt. Egypt was one of the few cultures that the Greeks respected

However....no. There was still a lot of..."racism"...even back then. The Romans for example would consider themselves different than Jews or Ethiopians

Its an interesting concept. The bible talks about there being three kingdoms waging war in Israel, home port. However knowing the kenite is a corruption on canaanite, they say the canaanites were descended from some islands near greece. They split the mediterranean into two empires, north and south. The greekswanted everything and even burned down a library of information. They were all said to be descendants of "fame." So you have to ask yourself who controlled the mediterranean for a loooong time. Those who invented phonetics and charted. So you have greeks then romans fighting for sovereignty but these europeans may have never told the tale of another famous civilization. I know when Jesus and his apostles spoke he said to members of the dispersed tribes. That they were flesh of his flesh and blood. These people came from as far as sefarda and accepted it as true. While there were warring priests and cults in the homeport. Whom for the most part were having. Trouble establishing anything significant because they kept getting invaded and wars were fought. But for the most part. Northern mediterranean were said to be one group of people due to politics and southern mediterranean was another group. Its funny but spain was considered more south mediterranean than north because the pyrneese made it hard for land trade so they were trading with south mediterraneans as they were closer.

The bible said to be weary of the babylonian paradox. A false or misleading interpretation. For example canterbury and cantabria have very similar sound. And if you search online cantabria will mean something like from the mountains. Or mountainous dwelling. Canta means mountain or stone. Canterbury, we know bury means dwelling or village. Most people will presume canterbury came first out of ignorance. But it is wrong. Cantabria came first.
>>
>>562122
Another example is cantabria and calabria. Both have the bury at the end. But one bury is said to connote the ebros. The other just connotes a dwelling.

in short, no. Romans didn't see Carthaginians as similar, nor did the Greeks see the Egyptians as anything like them.

in Greece's case anyway, barbarian was a very broad term simply meaning "not greek", which included macedonians in that category, despite almost completely emulating the Greeks.

But at the time, distance and language barriers was still more than enough to keep people from relating on some regional social level. The Mediterranean powers traded yes, but there was more than enough differences to keep an "us vs them" mentality between them all, especially so in Rome and Carthage's case, which saw each other as natural enemies for 150 years, ending in Carthage's complete destruction.

One is said to originate in celt hiberi people the other one is said to be a loan word in use in rome. Iberi Iberra. The basque language is older than latin. And it is an isolate. But dont tell the italians that. They will never say the celts or proto basques had a civilization. When celts ruled europe before the romans and greeks. and the ebro became infested with warring phoenicians calling it home.

If celts came out of austriaand ruled over central europe where the hell did the Germans come from?

North and South. The Titans fought the Olympians.
>>
>>562208
They waged war against their mother tongue or fought for it for Reknown. European history is eurocentric. There is a reason one mount is north of the other. The older one is north while the newer one is south. It shows their greed for corrupted truth.
>>
There's a whole area of history that hasn't been explored yet. The time before written history that was only told by oral legends that we often discount as just that.

>no one has ever studied the neolithic and palaeolithic.
>>
>>562221
This is true according to the phoenicians but dont tell that to the celts they conquered.
>>
>>562220
It has to an extent but it is haunted with corruption and will have the people who study it pacing. Even writing out logic and still not making any sense when the other person gives more input. Its like saying did moses split the red sea with magic. Or was the red sea part of the mediterranean, where there were lots of battles fought? Did moses separate the sea using rocks? Or did he make vessels out of the same wood he used as a walking stick?

>one is said to be a loan word in use in rome
The loan word (calabra/galabra) is used to describe fog and ice. Not things particularly common in Calabria. It's way more probable that it derives from a Greek expression relatable to fertility, considering that Sibari was a rich and influential colony in a point in time.
