To give you context in this question, think about Dresden. That's bad? Add in Hamburg. Two large German cities firebombed to ground. Sure, the Japs couldn't have it worse?

66 Japanese cities were firebombed during the war, average one losing around 40% of their urban area. Were talking at least ten times more casualties.

Its hard to say, but the God's honest truth is, Americans and much of the white world during WWII didnt even consider Japanese/asians socially as the same species. They were some lower mongrel race, though however capable, and had little qualms about fusing their shadows into the dirt with atom bombs.
